FYI - Pilots must pass some very rigorous and frequent health exams. Those that fly Unlimiteds also have to qualify for an additional license. It is unlikely that his age had anything to do with this accident.

If you have ever had the opportunity to talk with a fighter/racer pilot especially those that are still flying you should note their obvious clarity and sharp minds. The same goes for those that fly air racers. These guys are way outside the performance box for their "age". And when they have lost their edge, they retire without debate.

The adage; "There are no "old bold" pilots"
