Last week at P-T conferences, I had a mother of one of my students tell me some things about her son (that I had no idea about) and she told me that he doesn't have any respect for male authority figures ... any of them. Stems from problems with his father when he was younger (dad is no longer in the picture). Anyway, she said that he had asked her a question (male oriented), that neither she, her current hubby, grandma or grandma's hubby could answer, he said "That's OK, I'll ask Mr. Bachman at school tomorrow." Which may not seem like a big deal, but she said that, that say a terrific amount of respect he has for me. It nearly made me cry, that I have that kind of respect from a kid who doesn't give any to other male authority figure.
