I'm with NC Kid. Never liked tats, never wanted one. I especially don't like them on gals. There is nothing sexy or attractive about them. Gals like Kat von D and Daneille (from American Pickers) would be so much more attractive without all the ink. My daughter has several and I dislike every one of them.

there are some tats that are done well...

Some are junk... some are very well done and have a lot of meaning to the owner. My nephew has his late dad's initials (my brother) on his back.

But for the rest of it... not for me... but I refuse to outlaw it.

NCKid - if you go to a good shop, with a new needle, with a good health rating, and tend to the tat afterwords as instructed, you have nothing to fear. If infection was THAT huge a problem, there would be a lot of sick people out there.

Always go to a reputable shop. Needles and equipment should be sealed/sterilized and the artist should be wearing gloves.
I guess I'm one of those 'trashy ones with the tattoo on her ankle'... I have a palm sized tattoo of a dragon on my ankle, had it for nearly 20 years. And yes, it meant something to me when I got it and it still does. I even had it 'touched up' about a year ago. Not sure where the 'grey' fading color comes from that NC Kid refers to but mine never has, always remained colorful except where I had white in there, that faded - but then again you aren't supposed to be in the sunbed without putting suncreen on it to protect color, either but ... I'm in the sunbed daily or outside during warmer seasons - another 'vice' I suppose....
