Do we need to get him an all wheel or 4 wheel drive? He''s driving a Miata right now and with snows they get along ok but not great.
All wheel drives are OK, 4 wheel drives (usually a pickup,SUV) sit up a bit higher. A Suby-roo probably would do him well.
I have a one wheel drive Silverado that blows thru a foot of snow (as long as I don't stop on a hill ).
Snow out here is a bit different than on the east coast, we don't measure it in inches, we measure it in feet.
The big problem with people in 4 wheel drives is they don't realize that the brakes aren't any better than a 2 wheel drive.
I strongly suggest a winter "kit" in the car, warm, waterproof clothing, boots, gloves. Flashlight, folding shovel even a backpack meal, etc. I've seen many flatlanders stuck on Donner Summit wearing freekin' sneakers, shivering their butts off waiting for rescue.
