The installers that put my carpet in the living room and on the stairs did that too. Hundreds of them in the living room. Pulling all those sucked.
Then I had the master bedroom done, $50 to install and haul.
Those guys came in, put a long handled scraper under one edge of the carpet and pulled a 12 x 16 piece of carpet, staples and all in less that 5 minutes.
They only had two staples left in the floor when done and they pulled those with the scraper.
It's always about having the right tool for the job. Some years back, we had our driveway expanded around to the side of the garage. In its path, I had installed a basketball hoop some years before, using some kind of nuclear bomb-proof cement to set the post. So I whacked that cement for several hours with a sledge hammer, ruining a pair of glasses in the process from flying debris. I managed to get about 2 inches off the top. When I showed the driveway guy, I asked him if it was down far enough - he said, "We'll just pop that out with the bobcat."
