Best Day I've Had in a Long Time

Subject: Best Day I've Had in a Long Time
by BillH on 2013/7/27 1:57:22

Best Day I've Had in a Long Time and I have to "Blow My Horn" about it a bit.

At the test day there was only 15 cars there, 3 Nascars, a couple Corvettes, a brand new Superformance Cobra Daytona (freekin’ beautiful).

The first session - Julian drove slow, had to re-bed in the brake pads & rotors. The transmission worked flawlessly , I was ecstatic .
The bottom of the car was hitting the track though, 2 turns on the rear coilovers solved that.
Nothing fell off, nothing leaked.

Second session, Julian went out to really drive the car, ran 5 laps and I pulled him in for tire temps & pressures. He went back out and turned a 1:56.

Third session, Julian said “Your turn” , I went out 1 lap and said “the gears aren’t the right ratio but OK, there’s way too much front brake bias” , Pulled in. adjusted the brakes. Went back out and turned a 1:53.
This car is “Crap your pants “ fast and it’s not even close to being setup right yet.

In our SCCA track events, the Performance Driving Experience cars are not timed, the Club Trials cars (Corvettes, Ferrari, etc. street cars) are running for the fastest time and so are the Time Trials cars ( Race prepped Z06’s, open wheel cars, vintage Nascar’s etc). The fastest lap set by any of the cars including a new ZR1 is 1:53.

On my 3rd lap, I ran a 1:49 on 10 year old, rock hard tires. On my 4th lap I started to laugh and still haven’t stopped.

Julian did session 4. The track manager, John came buy. He’s an ex- Indycar and TransAm driver and car builder. He said, the way the car is running with zero problems is a testament to your build, this doesn’t happen very often.. Made me feel damn good.

At lunchtime the 14 other cars packed up and split, John said, well, the track is your’s for the rest of the day, go out anytime you want.

Session 5, Julian (who’s in good shape) said, damn this car beats you up.

John came back by and said to me, In September, a San Francisco Lamborghini dealer is bring a couple truckloads of Lambos here for his customers to drive and I need some pro instructors, we’ll pay you to be here.
Yea, I’ll do dat.

The only pain was Julian’s hauler, you need a step ladder to get in the thing.

And Julian says I’ll be driving the car again.

Hell of a Day.
