Top 9 deadliest roads

Subject: Top 9 deadliest roads
by red_johnny on 2008/1/27 17:10:26

Many would think that the deadliest and most dangerous roads to drive on are the big and busy highways with a lot of lanes. However, according to the U.S. General Accounting Office, in 2005, 61% of those killed in auto accidents were driving on rural, two-lane byways.

Forbes, went on a hunt to find out more about the problem before they turned up with the 2005 data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Fatality Analysis Reporting System, the most recent available, to check if any improvements had been made in recent years. In the end, nine roads, none of them major highways, stood out.

Topping the list is U.S. Route 19 in Florida, which accounted for 38 deaths in 2005, followed by Highway 74 which accounted for 31 fatalities. Both are currently under construction to become safer.
