MARCUS, CHURCHILL PUT ENGLAND BACK ON THE GOLD STANDARD WHEN HE WAS CHANCELLOR OF THE EXCHECKER AFTER WWI. IT WAS SUCH AN UNMITIGATED DISASTER EVEN HE ADMITTED IT. (THIS FROM THE MAN WHO SAID,"I KNOW HISTORY WILL BE KIND TO ME, FOR I INTEND TO WRITE IT.")

I'm reading up on it now. I don't doubt going to a gold standard (aka real value) would be a nasty cold shower for most of us.

But it would be nasty only because we're living in a make-believe economy, that is perhaps unsustainable.

Consumer spending is supposed to be a sign of a healthy economy, but if they're not spending their own money, who gives a shit?

Interesting. It has been known for years that the US is living in an unrealistic economy. Here in lies the problem. If we adjust (which would be a serious kick in the ass for the spoiled do littles) the reliant economies that depend on our artificial monetary spending would also take a serious hit. Nobody seems to want the US to reconcile. They'd rather we spend unsupported money then not spend backed money.
