About 4 miles east of town there were about 20 power poles broken off about 8 of the them were sticking on the road. Pulling into the neighborhood I noticed we weren't without a little damage when we arrived. Nothing like both next door neighbors though. So as soon as we were done unloading, we got to cleaning up. Still had a LOT of snow even though the temps were melting it very quickly. Two of the three trees in the front were basically unscathed, the third one had a couple large limbs broken off. A couple big ones were in the driveway and #2 and the boys had been over and moved them out of the way so we could put the car in the garage. One limb had broken off and was laying on the porch roof and somewhat hanging on the gutter. Snow on the roof was about 6-12" deep so I was not wanting, too badly, to climb up there to remove the limb. But, I could also see that the melting water was running over the top of the gutters and nothing coming out of the downspouts. So I did climb up on the roof, removed the limb and then did clean the gutters out....holy crap the gush of water that came out of the downspouts nearly washed me off the roof. Then Rosie and I started cutting up and hauling the limbs to the street, where the city will come by and pick them up. The neighbor to the south had a limb off one his trees land in our yard, so we cut it up and hauled it out as well. They called classes off again for tomorrow as there are still people out in the country without electricity, the roads are very muddy and the school has, at least, another day just to get the yards to where it is safe for the kids. It was a nasty storm. |
