Re: THE FIFTH, OF JULY THAT IS

Subject: Re: THE FIFTH, OF JULY THAT IS

Just hot out here... Humid? Not so much... but it is supposed to be 98 here tomorrow, and when it gets that hot along the coast, it is stupid hot inland... hm... lemme check.

<checking weather for hell>

In Riverside, CA, the high tomorrow is 113...

For Palm Springs, CA, 116...

And down in Marietta, CA, where my nephew lives, 113....

Even here in San Pedro, it is expected to hit 98!!! That just doesn't happen around here.

California, specifically SoCal, gets this thing called the Marine Layer... technically, an inversion layer. This is because the Pacific is still rather chilly down here. It doesn't get warm until San Diego... here, it is still 65F. We are not talking the Caribbean here! The 85F bathwater in FL just isn't the thing.

Thanks to that inversion layer, we get cooler air along the coast. Normally, when you hear of 120F in Palm Springs, it is under 80F here. In LA City proper, which is about 15 miles inland, they can easily see 95F and we are, again, under 80F.

Strange... and then there are micro-climates even more micro. We live up the hill in San Pedro...

If you look at the attached map, I laid out a few reference points...

The red arrow is about where we live, in an area of San Pedro called Holy Trinity. It is a very nice neighbourhood with nice streets, neat houses and nice, hard working people. In general, it is a quiet and safe area. In the 7 years since we bought here, no thefts or break-ins, thankfully.

The purple star is where we used to live in Torrance. Rented there.

The red star is where I work.

The blue star is Long Beach, where the IMSA series races in April.

Finally, the green arrow, which is where my friends car wash, Jerzy Boyz is located. The car wash is in a canyon, about 80 to 100' below us. And this is important.

One day, I left the house near the purple arrow... and drove to said car wash... and it was 75 in Torrance, got to the car wash and it was a boiling 95!!!

During a heat wave, it was 10-15 warmer down by the car wash vs the temps even up at our house, a mile away.
