Re: Marcus's 56 210 Wagon The Tell of Tales

We are back from the Ultra's most excellent adventure...... and what says welcome home more then getting picked up for speeding in the first Nebraska town we go through...... geez.......turns out he just mostly wanted to look at the car I think....... just gave me a verbal warning and said have a good day..... and you also sir.......

Well 2500 miles in the old Chevy since we picked her up in Eugene OR over a week ago. Have seen some glorious country and met tons of nice folks most of which had a story of the mid 5 Chevy they or their parents owned.... but mostly wished they had back....

The car ran flawlessly until we hit Nebraska....... I was pushing it out on the Interstate that we picked up in Ogallala......trying to run 75 80 and it missed a few times and acted out all crappy.......so I slowed down to 65 mph and it smoothed right out...... what the heck..... very hot and humid.....the car has never been in this low of altitude......

She ran fine at 70 so we left her there. As time went on I let it creep up and once again she started missing and backfired thru the carb and then shut off.......on the 80 about a half a mile from an exit we were going to stop at....... took her to the side and just coasted up the off ramp and let her stop. we sat there for a bit not saying much...... then I fired it right up and we pulled in to get fuel and let it sit for a bit.....

We decided to take highway 30 back to get of the 80 in case it just would not run and we had to pull off......not concerned because we have all kinds of folks that can come get us in a variety of trailers.........

So we pulled into the town of Kearney NE......and they were having their big summer cruise in....and we pulled onto main street headed east and we were in a big line of hot rods and everything else cruising main with tons of folks sitting in lawn chairs along the route...... Nellie was a mess of course but we fit right in with folks waving and giving us the thumbs up.... we did not make a return trip up the other side of the street.

From there we cruised at 60 to 65 all the way home and she never missed a beat....... I am going to replace the fuel filter to see if we were restricting the fuel at all.......the car ran out west at 70 to 80 without any problems.... so I don't know what is going on.....something to do with the fuel.....burning ethanol of course but have been all the way.....

Trip of a life time and me and the Mrs. had a ball.... now I gotta go clean that old dog up and make it presentable...... thanks for listening ...... and thanks again to Tom for posting the pics........
