Grandson #4 asked me if I wanted to play chess this morning. I made the chess set for him last Christmas. So I told him sure, then I proceeded to beat him pretty quick. He didn’t like it much, but was very congenial and said “good game”. I asked if he want to set them up and play again.....”no thank you, grandpa” was his response, but what he was really saying “Screw you, gramps you won’t let me win” he hates to lose, but he’s coming around to the fact that he cant always win. Some might think, “why crush the kids’ ego like that” and I say, “In real life you don’t win every time. Get used to it, losing builds character”. |
