I went out to the shop to get ready to go out and install the handrails when a former student, and friend, called me to ask about a bandsaw he had seen at a garage sale. It was at the school district in the next town over from us (7 miles). He said "You can't believe what I bought for $20." Come to find out they were selling off some of the tools from the woodworking shop. So after I talk to him we agree we need to go back and look at the bandsaw (almost brand new and $1800 dollars new) they are selling for $300. So I meet him back over there and find another bandsaw that "needs a little work" which he prices to me for $50.... "Uhhhh, I'll take it." With a little investment (less than $100) I think it will be worth $350 -400. My friend buys the other, new one for $300. As we are looking at that one, I notice a bench top CNC router..."Yea, it's not been run, nobody knows how to use it." Worth new about $1500-2000. How much for it? I ask. "How about $25...."How about I'll take it" Also had a big wood lathe, probably worth around $800-1000, "...is it for sale", "nah it's already sold" "How much you get for it?" "$150" "Darn I wish I'd been over here for that." He also said he was hoping to sell the table saw soon, so I gave him my number and told him when he got ready to sell it, to call me. I bought a couple other boxes of stuff spent a total of $85. I'm helping my friend sell the bandsaw and other things, he said he'd split the profits with me. So this afternoon Rosie and I go out to do the handrails. I'm in the middle of attaching the posts and my phone rings and it's guy at the sale.... "Hey are you interested in that lathe?" "Did the other guy back out?" "Well, he went home and decided it was too big for his garage., and he said if I had another buyer, to go ahead and sell it" "Is it still $150?" I ask. "If, so, I'll take it." "Yup, $150." "I'll be over Monday to get it." Hopefully a profitable day. |
