We had a peak of 31,000 without power yesterday evening, but the local utility has the count down to under 1,000 at this point. Ivelis is off today because the markets are closed and I took the day off because I'm getting close to use 'em or lose 'em. We had the time, so we went for a longer walk this morning along the local portion of the Lincoln Highway—a little over five miles. Likely another movie this afternoon. About an hour ago I heard a fire engine siren and got all worried. Fires are definitely not something we need right now on top of everything else. The engine sounded close, so I went out to take a look. The fire engine turned down our block and I got really worried—but just for a second: I realized it was in parade dress, with all the fancy lights on. Suddenly, it was obvious—they must be driving around to amuse local kids (and some adults ). As they went by, I gave them a thumbs-up and they waved. Gris, 41 pictures. |
