Do you think Roger Clemens is guilty (of steroid use?)

Subject: Do you think Roger Clemens is guilty (of steroid use?)
by CentralCoaster on 2008/2/13 18:30:47

I was stuck watching the Roger Clemens hearing this morning, but finally left for work.

I have not been following it, and it pains me to see our tax dollars pissed away on something like this, but it's probably the best way to try and sort out the truth when everyone is lying. And the other side of me enjoys watching people living in a fantasy world face the music that they aren't above our system, particularly when it comes to perjury. Because if you can't trust people under oath, the whole justice system fails.

The way I see it:

McNamee has zero credibility based on previous lies.

Clemens has zero credibility because he has everything to lose and will take the Pete Rose / Barry Bonds route.

McNamee has no credibility only because he was defending Clemens and others initially. The fact that he kept everything confidential with each of his 'customers', even with Pettitte and Clemens, gives him some integrity, unlike all the others involved with loose lips. I think his story now and his motives are believable, but not provable. So Clemens will probably get off legally, but be convicted by the media and deservedly so.

It's really a shame, but I guess exposing him is beneficial to the players that stay clean, and a good lesson for up and coming athletes that cheating won't help you.

It surprises me that McNamee is dragging everyone under the bus with him though. If he was already screwed, why didn't he just keep his mouth shut and take his hits and work a deal with these bigtime players to take care of him? Maybe he offered them that and they told him to piss off.

How come Sammy Sosa never got a congressional committee for his corked bat?
