Re: MONDAY AGAIN

When Sue had her surgery Friday a long time surgeon and friend of Sue's performed part of the surgery. She worked on Sue back in 1989 after her bad car accident. She did this recent surgery at no cost and worked with the other foot surgeon. What she did was sleeve a nerve in Sue's foot. That doctor is a hand and foot specialist. Sue has a tape allergy and even with her allergy wrist band and notations that said paper tape only they taped her with hypoallergenic tape. Sue knew it because her foot was burning after surgery . Sue is pretty much immune to the nerve blocks so she told the recovery room staff her foot was burning. Open up the bandages and remove any tape. I know there is tape. I can feel it burning. The nurses, with attitude and reluctance opened the bandages and removed a surgical tape that surrounded the wound. A tape that should not have been there due to her hypersensitivity. I'm sure it wasn't the surgeons but the support staff that must have done it when closing up the foot. The doctors knew of her tape situation. We have another friend that is an emergency room physician that helped Sue after her last surgery when they also applied tape that burned Sue's foot. That resulted in a relapse in healing and tripled the time it should have taken to close the wound. He talked to Sue on Saturday and told her to come to his office at an urgent care unit he and his wife own and operate outside of his ER duties. He undid the bandages to insure there was no tape or tape residue on her foot. Again, his services were gratis. The surgeons office called this morning and told Sue to come in. They changed her bandages and gave her a brace to protect her foot. Sue is way ahead of the curve this time verses the last surgery. She's up and around and full of piss and vinegar. Last surgery she wasn't up for almost a week. It's like night and day between this and last surgery. Only goes to show that some in the medical profession think they know better. They don't observe allergy notifications. When it says paper tape only that means PAPER TAPE ONLY. I saw it last time when a P.A. put supposed hypoallergenic tape on Sue's incision. She insisted it was needed to keep the would closed. Of course, she was wrong. That tape did way more damage than good. So, if you have a medical need, INSIST the staff listen to your requests. Your health and well being depend on it.
