Suddenly you’re, “ old-fart, old man, etc...” About three years ago I was walking across the shop at work when a young black man approached me and began to have difficulty asking me something. As I waited the seconds for him to spit it out, he said, “Pardon me um, uhh, ....old school. Can you tell me where...” It was very obvious he was being as respectful as he’d been taught, but he just didn’t have the vocabulary to address me in the more conventional terms. I answered his questions and we went on our ways. I’ll probably remember being addressed as, “old school,” for the rest of my life.🙂 In reading this, maybe I should change my handle to,”Old Skool!” |
