I too graduated in 73. Got a draft card number but they cancelled the draft so the point was moot. I signed up for the volunteer force in November of 73 and went active in Jan 74. It could have gone either way then but withdrawel was the order of the day. I had orders to Thailand to support the long range bombing mission but they cancelled those orders in May of 74 and I volunteered for Germany as my first choice. I was lucky to get it and it was off to Ramstein A.B. for 3 and a half fun filled years. I loved being stationed in Central Europe. Traveled and lived in several small villages off base. It was more than a job . It was an adventure. Loved it. Did 5 years and might have done more but my first wife wanted me to get out. |
