They didn't call Greenland Greenland because of the snow there. Between 450,000 and 800,000 years ago DNA is proof that sometime between 450,000 and 800,000 years ago, much of Greenland was especially green and covered in a boreal forest that was home to alder, spruce and pine trees, as well as insects such as butterflies and beetles. How did Greenland get its name? It actually got its name from Erik The Red, an Icelandic murderer who was exiled to the island. He called it “Greenland” in hopes that the name would attract settlers. Just thought you'd like to know. |
