It was VERY chilling when we got up, 27 and was only 31 when we left. 2 hours away from home the clear skies allowed us to see the mountains (still 2 hours away) and quite a few appeared to be snow covered. As we got closer we could see, for sure, the higher elevations were snow covered. The first pass we crossed, Le Veta pass, a little over 9000’ had some snow in the tree protected areas, but roads were clear. In the high SanLuis valley the temps rose into the low 60s. Then as we climbed back out and headed higher up toward Wolf Creek pass (almost 11000’) the snow was very prevalent and was piled along the sides of the road, but was melting as the temps were in the low 50s. As we got to the sky area, we could see cars parked and snow boaders going up the mountain and some coming down. Later my oldest daughter told us that Wolf Creek opened this weekend. When we arrived at the resort, temps were in the mid 60s. Supposed to be upper teens overnight tonight but back into the low 60s again tomorrow. |
