NEAT PICTURES, JOHN. WHAT WAS THAT WARSHIP?

Gris, that's the Little Rock—an interesting and transitional ship with a fairly long career. Built in Philadelphia during World War Two as a classic (all-gun) Cleveland-class light cruiser (12 six-inch guns/12 five-inch guns). Converted in the late 1950s to a Galveston-class missile cruiser/command ship, losing all the large guns aft and one six-inch turret forward and adding a dual Talos missile launcher and a far larger bridge. The Little Rock was in commission until 1976 and became a museum ship in 1979.

Full USN disclosure requires me to acknowledge that the Talos was not the Navy's greatest SAM.
