Working from home while carting my parents around to their medical appointments today. Al Unser Sr. (Big Al) passed yesterday at age 82 after a long fight with cancer. He was a towering figure at the Indy 500—won four times, 2nd three times, 3rd four times, and seemingly always in the hunt. He also won in just about everything: Colt/Ford, Lola/Cosworth, March/Cosworth. A transitional driver, he could obviously adapt—the Lola/Ford he finished 2nd in in 1967 barely resembled the Lola/Buick he finished 3rd in in 1992. This is the Al I remember—from the 1984 Indy 500. |
