I remember back when my kids were younger and just starting to drive, there was a pack of yahoo's that would go out to the end of the blacktop on our road and drag race back towards us.... now nobody loves a good drag race more than I do but they would come by our driveway at 80 to 90 mph as they were slowing down..... I called the cops but they were like yeah yeah that's where all the kids go to race... No kidding but they have lots of room to shut down and go by my place at a decent speed limit. So they showed up on patrol on Friday and Saturday nights for a week or two and that seemed to help.... then it started up again and even worse as there would be a dozen cars or so roaring past... it was mostly pickups and import stuff.... nothing cool.... so finally one night I had had enough so I took my lawn chair and some rocks and a very bright Mag Lite flashlight and I sat out there waiting for them to come by at speed.... as they were coming down the blacktop road I would start by putting the Mag Lite beam on them and some of them slowed down and as the one's that did not I would chuck a fairly small to medium rock at the side of the car when they roared by.... this got their attention with brake lights coming on and slamming into reverse to come get me at which time I would get my kids small aluminum bat and start to chase them.... I am not making this up. my intent was to beat on the vehicles not the kids.... but they didn't know that..... they would see me coming and take off... some of the confrontations got heated but I was mad as hell and wasn't going to take it anymore.... word got out that there was a crazy man out at the drag strip and activity fell off dramatically.... my daughter in high school said it was the talk of the lunch room. My younger kids were of course traumatized wondering what had happened to their nice Daddy... Finally my bride put her foot down and said no more rocks or confrontations and I was to call the cops when that happened again.... it made the kids cry when I was out there trying to beat kids cars wid my bat.... So the next time they gathered I called the Sherriff Dept. and we had it set up that they would hide over the crest of a hill and clock them going by... this worked great and kids lost their licenses and parents were notified and that was it... have not had a drag race by my place in many years.... except for when I am wanting to see how one of my vehicles is running and punch it at the start of the blacktop... but I always am going slow and turn in the drive.... that is my story and I'm sticking to it..... have a safe day Guru's.... |
