Re: TUESDAY 9 AUGUST

Thanks for the good wishes. Busy day... but not a lot done in the shop..

Leo and I went golfing this morning. Got out there and as Leo put his shoes on, I went over to get the cart that we borrow. The guy that works out there pulls up and is talking to me as I start toward the cart storage. They are private units with 2 carts/unit. I told Leo... "We won't be playing today, as I left the key in my bag and I left my bag on the cart last night", knowing we were playing today. The guy says "I can use the master key to open it for you." So he goes up to the clubhouse and gets the master and opens the door. Along side the cart we use, is a cart that has about 1/2" of dust all over it, and he says "I wonder whos' cart that is?" I tell him who it belongs to... a teacher who just moved to Dodge City with a new job, and he says "I wonder what he is going to do with it?" and I tell him "I've been wondering that all summer." With that in mind, I sent the guy a message asking him. He sent back "Good question, I'll let you know." About 10 minutes later he calls and says he really doesn't have anyplace for it where he moved to and says, I should just sell it. So I ask him how much he was thinking and he told me he had a trailer to haul it around and the rent for the unit is paid up for the year as well. I ask about the price minus the trailer. And he shoots me a price. It was a very reasonable price, so I told him I'd talk to Rosie and let him know.

So Leo and I finished up our round and came home and I tell Rosie about it, not knowing what she would think. But she said right off, "I think you ought to buy it". So I call and make him an offer for the whole deal at the price he offered the cart only and he countered with a price in between, so I told him I'd take it. He tells me the keys, trailer and everything was at his folks place and to just take the check down to his dad and he'd get everything for me. So, I'm the proud owner of a "new to me" gas powered golf cart. We went out to clean it up and run it around some. Leo says "Well, grandpa, I guess this makes you 'really' retired now."
