Loaded up the SUV and took a trip to Washington DC. We left late Friday afternoon and made it to Ohio before we stopped for the night. It was a good way to split up the drive. On Saturday we were able to take a more leisurely pace and include some breaks along the way before we reached the hotel in Virginia. The Hotel was nice, about 30 minutes outside of DC. I got some recommendations on here as to what city to stay in. We ended up in Tyson's Corner. Didn't do anything on Saturday evening except check out the mall and relax a bit. On Sunday we took the train into the city and went and saw some sights, went to see the cherry blossom trees (in bloom and festival time) and went to the Smithsonian American History Museum and Smithsonian Portrait Gallery. Walked around a bit and we were exhausted when we got back to the hotel. Took Jacob swimming and hit the sack. Monday we did the Holocaust Museum. I've been there before but it was 30 years ago. Not a lot of words can describe that place but highly recommended. We tried to get into a few other places but didn't have timed tickets so we walked around a while. Did stop by the National Law Enforcement Memorial before heading back. Tuesday we spent the whole day between Arlington Cemetery and the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum in Virginia (they have two locations). Both great experiences. In he evening we met a friend of mine and his wife for dinner near the hotel. Always nice to do. Wednesday we drove straight home leaving early enough in the morning that we got home at a decent hour, about 7:30 pm. Overall had a great time and spent good time with the kids. Hope everyone has a great holiday! |
