Ron, I used to put quite a few engines in work vans and cube vans, mostly Chevys since that's what most everyone used. It's really no big deal to take the nose section out. And after that between the frontal access and dog house access, it's really a piece of cake to work on. Good luck for a cheap and easy remedy. Hell, you might be able to put a crank kit in it and just keep going, if it's a rod bearing problem. That'd be much cheaper than even a junkyard dog.
