One drives the water pump and fan (critical), another drives the alternator (semi-critical) the other drives the power steering (not critical). But often on V-belts one can fail and take out other belts with it. It's reliable simply because there's very few things that can fail, or leave you stranded. The only electricals that can let you down would be the HEI distributor which is extremely reliable, or the starter or alternator. |
