Blacks traditionally vote 85-90% democratic. But this time, it was 95%, and of a much larger group of voters.
Black votes for the republican ticket dropped from about 750,000 in 2004 to about 1/3 that this time around.
I'm sure there's plenty of white racist voters too, but they probably all vote republican, so you'd never know how many seemed to be voting on skin color until a black republican candidate gets the nomination against a white democrat.
Being thrilled to see someone of your own race elected to the highest office in the land would certainly not make you a racist. If the color of their skin was the primary reason you voted for them then certainly. I think you could be thrilled of what it represents and still not have voted for the man. This is difficult to talk about for a couple of reasons. I am not black, so the idea that my son can grow up to be p.o.t.u.s. is a given. I would probably have felt differently if I were black until now.
