If it WAS ALL there, wouldn't it cost 75k - 100k+++ to restore?
No thanks.
Similar rare, restored factory race cars of this era have easily fetched a half million and up. Original engine in a race car is rare anyway but the original type 421 SD engines that came in these while not common are out there, having come in as options in larger Pontiacs of the era. I've got an idea that the price will spike quite a bit higher before it's finished. Look at the number of bidders. Reportedly Jay Leno is one of those bidders. I'm not sure how that is known but if that's the case, he'll no doubt end up with it if he wants it badly enough. Getting back to rare, Ford, Plymouth, Chevy and Pontiac ('62 Catalina) all had factory lightweight cars in the early 60s but all were made in higher numbers than these. Even the rare and highly desirable '64 Ford Fairlane Thunderbolt 427 lightweight, there were about 100 of them produced. Compare that to 12 of these, the majority of which are either documented to have been destroyed or whereabouts unknown.
I agree, these are uber rare. I am not so sure about the half mil value anymore. Muscle cars have been sinking over the last 18 months, then again, no stories (meaning well documented) cars are still worth a mint.
Since DeLorean and Wangers kept all the data, PHS has the numbers to back this car up.
