"Here, set these leaves on fire and suck it in." It killed both my parents and my father-in-law, but I still do it. My brother claimed that smoking created an environment that was inhospitable to germs, so he never got sick. Until he quit - a few years later, Alzheimer's killed him. When my grandfather was 80, he asked his doctor if he should quit smoking. The doctor replied, "Why?" When I was a kid, everybody smoked, even in grocery stores. Fred Flintstone sold Winstons. Times have changed a bit. |
