It's called the "red mist." And it can blind you. Keep your eyes open and don't fall for something until you know the product well. The C5 is a totally different animal.

When I bought my 92, I didn't test 10 cars... there simply weren't that many 6spds in my area to test! I drove from Cherry Hill, NJ to Hopewell, VA in my search.

The first car I went to was in Hopewell, VA. For those not knowing VA, it is well south of Richmond, VA. Closer to NC, really. The car was just not right. The details were not there... the undercarrage was oily... the headlite buckets not washed... the power antenna broken... and the killer? The Odo was 3k miles off! The girl had a loan on it, and supposedly the bank was going to take like 4-6 weeks to release said title. VA banks are strange...

I found a good looker in Miami, but the distance and miles on the car were more than I wanted to deal with. After getting home from Hopewell, I called a guy in the Cherry Hill area and he had a no stories 92... That's the one I ended up buying. 39k miles, 6spd in the colours I wanted.

Well, I looked at 25 or so cars, everything around town, drove to Sacramento and looked at 6 in one day. Most of the ones I saw had problems or were over priced.
I scheduled another trip to the SF Bay Area to look at more.
It's a bitch to look at 5 cars in different cities in the same day but, I found my 92 in Vacaville (already had the Carfax), a guy bought it for his wife and she didn't drive it, 5k miles in 5 years, sitting in a heated garage undercover. In excellent condition, 60k miles but didn't look like it. He gave me a file with receipts from 25k miles, new $2,500 clutch & DM, new shocks, new antenna motor, hidden 6 disc CD changer, 2 tops and the painted one looked like it had never been on the car.

I have done an opti, alternator and fixed an oil leak but there's nothing really to work on in the car.

If I buy a C5, I'll do it again. I've seen some ratty C5s lately.
