Subject: Re: Clinton's Presidential Center by bogus on 2011/5/29 0:39:18 When it comes right down to it, he did a fair job as president, I feel. His only fault was a tendency to put his dick where he shouldn't. From political power plays to other games played, no worse, no better, no less dubious than any other administration. He ran the government well, and I think left us in better shape, economically, than when he started. History will be kind if the results were still good. I am not so sure how history will define the Bush II presidency. The killing of Osama will help, and if true Mideast peace can be created, then by all means, his work there will be lauded. Even Nixon, the gnarliest, crookedest president EVER was redeemed by his expert foreign policy knowledge. I despised the man, but he was good at foreign policy. Carter, a failed president, has, as an ex-president, do so much good. Amazing. His administration will never be well received by history, but his civilian life will be regarded highly. As an ambassador, he has kicked ass. However, some of his latest comments and behaviours are a bit worrisome, and I wonder about his mental health as he reaches into his late 80s. Reagan... his presidency is iced. As a man, ethical. As a leader, he knew when to play the game and when to be straight. We will not see another like him for a long time. I didn't like him during his term... and I still don't agree that supply-side is a long term solution (emergency fix, sure, long term, no so much). But he bonded the people and started a reemergence of the nation. One that Bush I could not maintain. But strangly, one that Clinton amost maintained. I will say this about Reagan, I do not like the way he politicized the military. That was bad... the military should serve the CinC. Plain and simple, and when they don't show appropriate respect, that is inexcusable. Regardless of party, they are paid to serve. |
