Well, you can take care of it and just about drive it forever, and it will almost always be cheaper (in the long run and the short run) to keep it running than to get a newer one. Eventually you accept the fact that the car is worth next to nothing, and is always worth more to keep than to sell.

My '85 has been my daily, and is still capable. Obviously, if it was my only car, and my only means of getting to work, that would be a problem. So that's why I have two old cars.
