Because taxing the gas isn't good enough. You could trade in a 2001 Caprice with 0 miles and they'd give you 4500 as long as you bought an econo-box with it. These people getting a $4500 rebate will pay three times that in interest and depreciation vs. what they traded in. They aren't crushing anything as far as I know. Your trade in would just be sold at auction to a used-car dealer. |
