By 96 GM had the new PM Rods and Lighter Hyper pistons figured out 100% with the LTX and L31's...

I honestly believe most of the LTX balancing problems were due to them changing in the middle of LTX production from the old forged rods to the PM rods... BUT the LTX's unkeyed hub and pulley/balancer combination on the front was a totally new concept on a SBC and didn't help either.

No doubt a 180K mile engine is no match for a low mileage one in the power dept.

I'm really glad you got your car back running and this engine you've had sitting for so long is still good as new.
