Checking In From US Route 1

Subject: Checking In From US Route 1

We are safe in Raleigh, North Carolina. So far, we have traveled 2,607 miles, 1,109 of them on Route 1. Highlights so far:

Savannah, Georgia was gorgeous. We visited one of the classic homes (the Owens-Thomas house) and had a very interesting dinner at The Grey, built in an old Greyhound bus station.

We took the short tour of Daytona International Speedway and visited their interesting and eclectic racing museum. Later that same day in Vero Beach, Florida, we enjoyed cocktails at the Cobalt Lounge and dinner at the Ocean Grill.

Tom was a wonderful host in Homestead, Florida, both relaxing and educating us. He also bought us brunch ...

Though hot, the drive down and back from Key West, Florida was beautiful. We also enjoyed our stay at Eden House bed and breakfast, ate a good dinner at Prime Steakhouse, and had wonderful fresh fruit-infused drinks at Pepe's (around since 1909).

After experiencing some torrential Florida rains, we spent our first night on Route 1 at the lovely Casa Coquina del Mar bed and breakfast in Titusville, Florida, which has a great view of Kennedy Space Center. Dinner was across the street at El Leoncito, a Mexican/Cuban restaurant with very good food.

The drive from Titusville, Florida to Augusta, Georgia turned out to be a wonderful "Chamber of Commerce" day—sunny with broken clouds and temperatures in the mid-70s. We responded by keeping the top down as much as possible as we moved rapidly north in Georgia.

Grace is functioning well. We got an (accurate) high tire pressure warning on day one, as ambient temperatures increased by over 40 degrees—easily fixed. Ivelis also believes that the driver #1 memory is failing, but inconsistently.
