Re: Worth of a 68 BB 4spd Vette?

His 67 is an El Camino, not a Vette... he wasn't clear on that! I can see why you made that assessment!

As for the 68, early C3s are coming up in value, but the motor is not numbers matching. 67 and 68 Vettes shared the same power plant lineup... that means a 427 with 390-435 hp.

I would get the VIN and start decoding with the black book. Here is why, if the CAR was once an L88, it's worth a ton of cash, there isn't a lot of them, and even without the OEM motor, the CAR is worth money. It's still rare and a motor can be put in to replace that matches via date codes and such.

Top dollar for a normal 68 BB is about $45~$50k. Somewhere in that neighbourhood. That's top dollar. An L88, IIRC, somewhere about $80k, I will have to check. The ZL1 doesn't really count... there are only 2 and both are accounted for, but expect over $500k.

In short, the 68 is not loved like the 67. And it's current values reflect that. And in the years of $150k 67s, the 68 has not followed suit. So I doubt it will go stupid anytime soon.

If it was me, I would pass.

Considering what you REALLY want out of the car, I would look at selling the Z, getting an SR3 chassis and finding a banged up roadster to build everything around. You would need C4 suspension to bolt up, tho.

We can talk more if you want.
