Hi black86v3tt3, ASR stands for Acceleration Slip Regulation. It uses three subsystems of spark retardation, throttle close down (yes, the pedal pushes back), and rear brake intervention. It works with the ABS (This was from the Factory Service Manual).
It scared me the first time it happened, there was a little snow on the road and all of a sudden there is an odd grinding type sound from the rear of the car and the gas pedal is pushing back against my foot. Just like the first time ABS kicks in, kinda freaks you out. I believe 1992 is the first year in production and is standard on every vette from then on. I assume yours is an 86 from your name so I don't think you have it. I usually turn it off if it is dry and sunny out. On the good side it won't let you do burnouts, saves ya some money. :thumbright:
