I seem to recall that some people have put a thin strip of aluminum behind there to act as an anchor.

Cover is off. Bolts are on converter to flexplate.
Exhaust is not touching in reat near differential.
I will jack it up and get under it

Back again. Old sensor was 2500 ohms at 75 degrees. According to this chart it was off. I am going to keep fiddling with it, check it in hot water, freezer etc..
Reconnected battery, all is well, as far as code being gone.
