I'm trying to get my head around how this is supposed to work. So what you're saying is the piggy back unit has a 2-Bar MAP sensor so you can tune for boost (up to 14.7 psi).
However - I assume it's intercepting the MAP signal to your ECM, and therefore the ECM sees the 2-BAR voltage? Are there other features of the piggy back that are relevant? (BTW - please post model number / specs of the piggy back so we can get an idea what it's supposed to be doing and hence what you may need to do in the tune) It may be that this is a 'classic' 2-Bar MAP tune which requires you to effectively re-scale the VE tables.. since the ECM will now be looking up a different part of the table for each MAP value.. e.g. 100Kpa (WOT) will not be at roughly 50KPa in the table. (Some good write-ups / sticky on this topic in the tuning section of thirdgen.org). What instructions did you get with the unit?

Interesting. Do you have any specifications of the unit? I may be looking for a way to run a 2 Bar MAP at some point..

On the 92 the dryer is bolted via a bracket to the top of the fan shroud on the passenger side. The secondary fan is fairly small (actually both fans are on the small side) and is mounted on the fan shroud lower down and under the A/C Dryer. The De-witts shroud/fan combo has larger diameter fans that means the dryer has to be moved. So what I'm looking for is a fan upgrade that uses the existing shroud.

I'd like to upgrade my fans (same issue - denser 3-core radiator that cools instantly above 30mph but in traffic my fans are hopeless).
I do have an issue that the DeWitts upgrade requires the A/C dryer to be moved but my supercharger setup makes that very difficult. On my 92 the fans seem to be a direct bolt-on to the shroud, I wonder if there is a 'standard' size spal fan out there that is a simple bolt-on (and maybe wiring upgrade).

Stock sensor is a 1-Bar - tops out at atmospheric. I'm running a Vortech V7-YSi supercharger on my 92 with the stock GM computer. Tuning with a supercharger and the stock computer is pretty involved and I've already spent a lot of time on mine - but the car drives really well and makes good power.
I'm very interested to hear how you progress with the piggyback system. From what I have read, piggyback systems are good for fueling in most situations )cruise, idle, WOT), but can struggle with automatically dealing with transient situations (e.g. from cruise to WOT) unless they are configured. Not sure if the Split Second system tunes spark - is it configurable with a laptop (e.g. at the Dyno?) What model of system did you get? Let us know what features is has. Good luck with your tuning, keep us posted!

..I had a no-win situation where I had to take my wife to see it. The theatre was Estrogen-city, I was the only guy in there.
However - there are more scenes of b88bs than weiners, so it turned out to be a worthwhile trip. Just sayin..

Morning all. Trying to get life back to normal after a screaming six months (as in screamingly busy!). going to run a few errands today 'under the work radar'.
Re-started my exercise regime this morning - loosely based on the 'easy setting' on P90X. I'm not getting any younger so it's hurting a little. Those guys are insane. Weather is warming up here in Ga and I saw 97 on the dash yesterday. Still feels cool overnight though which is nice because the A/C isnt cranking all night. I'm also putting the finishing touches to the tune on 'zilla. Needed to re-tweak the VE tables because after installing the wideband I realize that mid-throttle was far too rich, and gentle throttle (i.e. in traffic) far too lean. Gonna ride in it with the datalogger to run my errands today and enjoy scaring old ladies and small children and mustangs. Take care gurus!

I'd need to see the actual graph, but 'typically' a much higher torque number than HP is a characteristic of a motor with a small turbo or nitrous. If your 365hp figure is at 5500 RPM then I would say maybe the heads are restricting higher end horsepower. However - your torque number is very very nice for a NA motor.. I bet that thing pulls hard! Personally I wouldnt mess with anything except to try and fix your poor idle.

Raising the idle isnt straightforward physically - you have to do it in the tune. However, according to comp the XFI280 cam has a strong idle so I wouldnt expect it to be rough like you describe. Before you look at idle speed I recommend you do some basic troubleshooting, maybe start a new thread over in C4 Tech. Could be anything from arc-ing plug wires (check in a dark garage) to a vacuum leak to old injectors to a poor tune.. start from the basics and work upwards. Oh - and congrats on the car - nice numbers!

See picture for gauge location - I bought a PLX SM-AFR kit that has a wideband module, O2 sensor and touch-screen gauge. The kit allows me to add more modules and see them with the same gauge.
I am using the module to simulate the narrowband O2 on the left hand side of the engine and I also hijacked the A/C pressure signal to the ECM for datalogging. Setup works just fine, very happy with my days work. Now (with the custom data window) I can datalog the wideband on datamaster!

+1 above Glad its Friday - has been a funky few weeks with end of financial year stuff (ours ends May 31 - go figure) and then my vacation last week. This weekend I plan a PLX wideband install in the 'vette. Thinking about mounting the gauge in the air vent above the Climate Control module. I'm also going to hijack the A/C pressure sensor wire (or at least install a switch) so I can datalog the wideband. I'll run a couple of datalogs with stock O2's before the install and then I will tweak the tune if necessary and lock down the Block Learns .. so that if the narrowband emulation is a bit off then it wont affect my tune. Have plans to put a separate bung into the exhaust in the summer. Happy Friday!

Andy - that looks awesome, thanks - it shows a removable clip that attaches to the pipe and regulator. The guy on ebay shipped me a 'clip' yesterday, and I was skeptical that it would work. However if he sent the same type as the one in the picture then I'll be very happy!

Thanks Andy - it does. The collar that screws onto your regulator - does it look as if it could be disassembled and removed from the pipe or is it a 'permanent' fixture?

All,
I recently bought an LT4 fuel rail to go with my LT4 intake (previously using a 92-style rail). The rail I received seems to be missing the collar to connect the return hard line with the regulator (see pic). The guy has promised to send me the collar but I dont see how I could install it - to me it looks like someone cut off the old one? Anyhow - I wonder if someone could check for me the layout of the collar on a 1994 or later rail. Thanks! Attach file: LT4 Rail ebay small.JPG (172.95 KB)

I'm trying to find the flow rating(s) for various fuel filters including the stock Delco filter on our vettes. 90 minutes on the internet and not a single piece of information that shows lph flow @ a certain fuel pressure. If anyone knows where I can find this information I will be very happy!

Not sure if my plan today is anywhere near as romantic as the rest of the guru's..
I am running a series of fuel flow tests on the vette today. Since my fuel system couldnt keep up at the dyno last week I'm going to try and pinpoint the problem. I plan to be very methodical - assuming the flow isnt what it should be (should see the equivalent of about 70 gallons per hour) then I will be changing/replacing one thing at a time. I will post up the results!

No intercooler yet - although now I have found a pro fabricator I'll look closely at pipe routing in the summer (he's also going to fab up some chassis braces for me). Boost - should be around 12 at 6500 but the boost ramp on this thing doesnt look linear, the graph extrapolates closer to 14. (Power curve is doing the same thing). I heard a few people say that the YSi 'comes alive' when it's spun up. Chose Vortec because I was coming froma V1-S and the bracketry was the same - just needed a little bit of strengthening by Greg. Hoping not to see any slip, although I am running a very nice custom pulley at the S/C so shouldnt see much.

Matt - already have dual pumps and 60lb injectors. I think there is a basic problem - could be as simple as a clogged filter (although current filter only has about 3000 miles on it). I may just replace the whole system, but that will have to wait a while. Quote:

Yes - after some tweaking the discharge from the volute is much better but still sits slightly into the wheel well. I have a guy who's going to take care of that so I can autocross. Boost - 8 rib setup, one of Greg Carrolls custom pulleys and brackets. Zero flex, 9lbs of boost at 5000RPM Running denatured alcohol on a 2-stage setup (triggers at 4lb and 8lb)

After a long and busy winter at work, and also some distractions with my sons drifting habit (he's competing Pro-Am this year) I finally got a decent 3" exhaust installed and went to the Dyno.
It became quickly apparent that the fueling system wasnt going to keep up.. I could not get the AFR below 12.8:1 at 5000 RPM and so we decided to stop and investigate the problem (likely gonna take me a few months). Anyways we got 544 HP / 565 TQ at 5000RPM and a very promising hp/tq curve for when I open her up to 6500. As suspected the YSi really starts to wake up at higher RPMs because the power and tq curves are trending upwards. The attached pdf compares tonights run with one of my early S-trim runs from 2004. Oh - and enjoy the attached youtube link. Turn up the bass.... http://youtu.be/WC7J9--8KJY

Good advice guys - thanks. My first 20 years driving was FWD on twisty lanes in England so maybe it still feels more natural.
Nevertheless I'd like a better feeling of connectedness (sp?) with the front of the 'Vette. I have emailed Turn One to see what they can supply, I'll keep you all posted. As for springs etc., I have QA1 (ex Carrera brand) coilovers that also need replacement. So this year I will attack steering rack, pump, hoses, fluid, coilovers, all bushings (front and rear). Should make a difference!!

Thanks guys - Z51 rack is my next project. So... I have done a little research this morning and can't seem to find a definitive supply for this rack. Rock Auto part number 22128 is a rebuild service but doesn't mention Z51. Also, some mention of needing to change out the end joints (or something). Does anyone have any other part numbers and/or a link to project details?
Thanks

As some of you know I recently leased a 2012 GTI as a daily driver. I am totally shocked at the amazing steering feel on the GTI vs my '92 convertible. The Vette feels heavy, bloated and 'disconnected' from the road, so I'm guessing it probably needs some R&R - new steering fluid, bushings etc., however I also notice a lot of play in the steering wheel so maybe the rack is worn too.
I'm assuming that I won't be able to get the Vette to feel as light and "chuckable" as the GTI but I'm willing to spend some time and effort to get close. Looking for suggestions...

Andy - It was good to see you yesterday.. a well deserved couch day! BTW I hope those two lines of black you left on the track are there for a while . A little sore myself today after stacking tires at AMP. Enjoyed driving the track too. Need to do some research on doing something on the front end of my 'Vette- it feels bloated, disconnected and overweight compared to my GTI which is only about 150 pounds lighter. I could seriously kick my own ass on a very twisty track if I was driving the GTI vs the Vette. I suspect some of my suspension and steering components are worn out. I'll start a separate thread on the topic- if I'm replacing parts I'll upgrade at the same time. Happy Sunday Gurus!

Now.. having said all of the above, I am searching for later fuel rails for asthetic reasons :-)

Yep. See here: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c4-te ... ntake-lt1-fuel-rails.html Also my engine builder (Grimes in Alpharetta) says the combo is fine. The bolt holes are off very slightly, just make sure you hand-thread all 4 bolts before snugging them down.

Jim - I'm using 92 rails on my LT4 intake. There is enough flex in the system to allow the bolt holes to line up. I've been looking to get 96 rails but that task keeps being pushed down my to-do list :-)

Hi all, been a while since I posted. Work has been crazy busy which means either the telecoms business overall is picking up or I dont delegate well enough..
Anyway, the monster has just about 1500 miles on the new motor so I'm planning a dyno trip in the next few weeks. I'll be upping the RPM in the tune to 6500 (currently at 5000 - you will remember the builder wanted me to restrict to about 6-8 pounds of boost for the first 1500 miles and limiting RPM was easier than swapping pulleys). Hoping for some nice numbers, I'll try and shoot some video. I also finally made a decision on my daily driver - I have been driving a 1999 SHO which is nice but showing signs of age. Need something that is a balance of: Fun (for me) Price (to keep the missus happy) Quiet on freeway Seat 4 adults Fun Good gas mileage Price Reliability Fun ..so I test drove a 4-door, 6-speed 2012 VW GTI and it meets all the above criteria. Surprisingly quiet and balanced car with a reasonable turn of speed. I actually really like it, and it also satisfies some of my mid-life crisis! Gonna probably sign the lease papers tomorrow.

Thanks Andy, I saw that thread a couple times. L92/LS3 are both 6.2L engines whereas this has a 6.0L - which leads me to think its a LY6. However I found contradictions that say the L76 was used in both Australia (including Pontiac G8) AND the US (Yukon etc.)... which means it's either a LY6 or L76. Now my head hurts...

My son has an option to buy a used V8 for his drift car, but we're struggling to identify it. Block casting number is from an LS2 (12568952) and it is an aluminum block. Head casting numbers are from an L92 (5364) and are also aluminum. It has a truck intake. The partial VIN shows me it is from an '07 vehicle, and the seller says it either came from a duramax truck or a Yukon XL. There is another stamp on the block (in two places) that reads X207818. Behind the flexplate it has a "6.0L" stamp.
After about 2 hours research I think it is either a Vortec 6000 or a LY6. It seems like a nice motor to use in a race car - apparently the L92 heads will accept an LS3 intake, although he'll have to remove the drive-by-wire TB stuff. Also if it has vvt he may need to switch out the vvt cam for a regular LS2 cam for high-RPM use. Any guru guidance on confirming the identify of this motor?

Early morning for me. Our house guests have a very active 4 year old who has about 20 times too much energy for a Sunday morning... Planning to attend a small car show today just to say Hi to the local Corvette guys and put some more miles on the new motor. After the drag strip action last weekend the Spec stage 3+ clutch has fully bedded in and now feels like a completely stock clutch - its awesome to drive!
Have a great Sunday

After trying to fast-shift my B&M shifter (5000 miles in the car) at the strip last weekend, definitely looking for something less notchy and cleaner. This is on my list!

Yes indeed I had a blast! First time on a 1/8 track (previously only ran 1/4 mile) - and I realize that I normally use power in the last half of the 1/4 mile to make up for sucky driving in the 1/8.
At the 1/8 yesterday with a stick I really had to knuckle down, plus the new motor and Spec 3+ clutch makes for a different launch experience.. Andy (95Vette) - your new motor is awesome, very impressive times for what is supposed to be a LT4 with hotcam.. I think you got much more than that. Congrats! Overall I'm very happy with mine - still have it set to 5000RPM to limit the boost so I bounced off the rev limiter all day. Overall my best time was 8.201 @ 94.83 with a 2.001 60ft which I am very happy with. The builder says I can open up the rev limiter at around 2000 miles - so I'm looking forwards to the spring!

Been having some accuracy issues..
First, when I put the engine back in the car after the rebuild, I replaced the passenger head coolant sender. Ever since then the analog gauge has read about 20 degrees higher than the digital gauge. When I next drain the coolant I'll put another new sender in to see if it makes a difference. Today, while chasing a potential fuel pressure issue, I found that a mechanical fuel pressure gauge reads 20% higher than my electronic pod-mount gauge. My suspicion is that the electronic gauge is wrong because every component on the fuel system has been replaced (including filters) and I am now running the stock FPR. The mechanical gauge reads just where the fuel pressure diagnostic says it should. I'll replace the electronic gauge and sender over the winter and let everyone know what I find out. Weird. Its been having me chase my tail for a while..

..my son competed in his first official tandem drift event last weekend and placed first out of 10! It was a particularly sweet win because he beat a lot of sponsored Pro-Am drivers. (Pro-Am is the feeder series for Formula D). The event took place at the airfield in Thomson, GA - the airfield was closed for the day.
Here is a 'promo' video from the event. My son's car is heavily featured - it is the black Nissan 240sx with bright purple hood. On the side it says SrsBsns ;{. My son (Alex) will be competing 'full time' (5 events) in Pro-Am next season for sure. Enjoy! If you want to skip some of the video - skip to 3:44 and you'll see just how close Alex gets to the 'clipping point' - he is very accurate. Vimeo - Clear to Drift 2

SCR is around 9:1. I am currently gently breaking-in the motor so I have it restricted to around 4900 RPM. I'll be allowing it to run close to redline (should be around 6500) at the dyno in a month or two. It's sized for around 14 psi but we'll see what happens..
