It's just a Summit brand block off plate

What do you think of fluidampr balancers ? Why did you choose the ATI Super Damper ? Do you get a good deal on them from somewhere ? I wanted an ATI, but I am too cheap, so I bought a fluidampr that was brand new on a deal from a project that never got off the ground.

You ever have either of them fall apart ?

Hey Beach, I have also used Fluidampr, I had one on my 421. It's not a bad piece. And I do get a bit of a discount, I have a Proshop account thru Summit. I guess I just personally think the ATI is a little bit nicer damper. And I have never had problems with either. Most SFI approved dampers hold up pretty good.

Thanks. Hey Josh, it's a 6.0" rod motor with a 1.062" compression height piston.

Hey Josh, sorry to hear about the mishap. Sometimes it takes a complete autopsy to get to the bottom of it. I would suggest using the "H" series bearing, when you put new ones in. Or it seems like they are also labeled as "N" narrow. The "N" bearings are for a chamfered crank. They are harder, and stand up to nitrous better, and it wouldn't hurt to open your ring gaps a little also. Usually a piston would be a good place to look for problems using nitrous, but it obviously wouldn't affect oil pressure.

Hi Everyone, Alot of you know me from CF.I probably already introduced myself, but I thought I would make it official. And this is a good forum, kind of like the CF of old. It's cool to see alot of old names like I mentioned in a thread.

Wow... thanks, I'm flattered! We should get this wrapped up pretty quick. One thing I will say without getting into a big discussion... I have done probably 10 plus 421's. 383's are the only engine I have done more of than 421's. And this engine will be a very fun engine to drive. Great throttle response, great part throttle torque, decent milage, and still pull down some good top end numbers. When you go with the bigger heads 220cc+ and more cam, the car will be faster, but it comes with a price. From my experiance, the bigger cam/head motors make more power above 4500rpm, but give up 20-30 hp and 40 ft/lbs torque everywhere below 4500 rpm. And for a street car, it's not a bad way to go. I guess good streetability is different for everybody. My 450 is streetable, but I wouldn't want to take it on any sort of a trip. With a 252/260 solid roller, a spool, and Et streets, I drive maybe 10 miles to the track and home. It's faster than Ricks, but you give up real drive it anywhere streetability for all out power. Sure we could put some bigger heads on it, maybe more cam, but it will do what Rick wants it to do the way it is.

PS: sorry if we got off topic.

Sounds like your project is getting close. You'll love the big cubes and torque that 436 will make. Getting everything behind it to survive could be a different story! Was a 383 the last engine you had in your car, or was there something else after the 383? Going from a 383 to a 436 is day/night difference.

Thanks guys for the kind words. This is a good forum. The 421 had 11.0 compression with a Comp 248/254 about .600/.620 lift solid roller on a 112 lobe sep. I decided to push the pump gas limits a little more on the 450, especially in our thin air (DA 6000-9000 ft). So I bumped it to 11.5 on the 450, but it also has a Crane 252/260 solid roller also on a 112 lobe sep and .660/.660 lift, so the dynamic compression is do able for pump gas, and actually nos also. I mainly just pull 6 degrees out for nos, and it's happy. The heads were AFR 220's on the 421, and LE ported them out for the 450. But to gain 2 tenths and 2 mph running bottom 10's takes some effort, and i am happy. And my car is NHRA legal to 10.00, so I am close to the end. But up here it takes a 9 second car to run 10's and a 10 second car to run 11's, ect. And I really don't want to do everything to make it NHRA legal in the 9's.

Just wondering........About how much horsepower are you pushing?

My old 421 made 502rwhp and 481rwtq n/a, and 720/790rw on the bottle. My 450 is 2 mph faster and about 2 tenths quicker, but I haven't dynoed it. So maybe it is about 600hp n/a. That seems to be the popular number around here!
