Tyler, have fun in KC!

Matt, so sorry to hear that. Let me know if there is anything I can do.

I'll miss ya'll.

So far, it looks like a modified C4 from St. Louis, a procharged C6, and my ol bomb will be making the trip. Waiting to hear yah or nah from guys with a very nice stock C5Z and an original 61k mile C3.

Got to get out tonight with a few buddies and go to a shine n' show. I didn't get any pictures of our Vettes, but planning on getting those later this fall. Anyway, there were quite a few very cool rides. Thought you would enjoy seeing a few.

Don, I wish mine got that good around town, at about ~12. I get a little better on the highway ~25. Curious as to why...

Found the problem. It was a plug wire. Caution to those of you using Taylor 10.4mm wires. The area the drivers side wires go under the accessories in front of the motor is very tight. So tight, that it rubbed a spot through the wire, so that it would arc occasionally against the engine block. I rtv'd the tar out of it, took the car on a drive, and no more problems.

I think that this "fix" will get me through to winter, then I'll pull the wires and put some 8.5's back on.

I know this has been discussed quite a bit, MSD or Taylor 8.5's?

The coil is Accel with about 10k miles on it. I don't know about the IMC. How can I test the coil and ICM? I'd just like to get a check sheet, since I'm going to be tearing into the front of the engine.

I did drive it again last evening. Overall, I'm a cruiser, so I thought the car needed a few hard pulls. In 1st, blew the tires off, shifted into second about 20 mph and blew the tires off again, so feathered through the top of 2nd and noticed that at about 5k rpm, it would feel and sound like it was bouncing off the rev limiter. More of a larger miss issue. Ran it up in 2nd again, and pulled to 6700 rpm easily. Tried it again and same 5k rpm problem. Pulled the codes and no problems there. I'm a bit baffled....

The opti is a MSD with about 10k miles on it. The car has just over 30k. It's not throwing any codes. I was able to pull all the wires from the passenger side and they look fine, ends all tight, no wire burns, all good. I was able to feel the driver’s side to make sure they were connected tightly, but did not pull any of them (didn’t want to get into that yet). Tonight, after it gets dark, I'll try the mist idea. Great suggestion. If I don't see anything, I'll tear the accessories off the front of the block and pull the drivers side wires and inspect them.

If I cannot see any arcing, wires look good, and no codes are being thrown, should I go ahead and get another opti? Changing them is not that difficult, just time consuming. I'll be disappointed if the famed MSD opti goes out with only 10k miles....

I have not driven my car since May and went for a short drive this evening. Very humid, which this car hates. While driving I could feel and hear a miss every once in a while. When I got home, opened the hood and was listening and watching for arcing from the plug wires, but could not see anything. However, I could hear that distinct "click" sound like an arcing spark. It is coming from the opti area. So, how do I diagnose and track down if I need a new opti or it is a plug wire issue?

When this happens, do you try to start it again and after a few attempts will start? If so, I had the exact same problem a year or so ago.

Long story short, the battery was the problem.

I thought it was the starter, so pulled and rebuilt the starter, but the problem continued. Pulled the battery, had it tested and it tested good. I still believed it was the battery so purchased a new one anyway and have not had another problem. In my case, the electric water pump, MSD box, and N2O progressive controller would pull a little more current than the battery could handle. You running some electronics that would pull current prior to starting?

Props to FICINJECTORS! Very reasonable price, fast shipping, and great product. This fixed my hard starting issues and some surging that I thought was normal.

Thanks!

Hey Rich, I'll take them. I definitely have one, maybe more that are bad and with the miles I've got, it's time.

How do I order?

I've got a 99 Jeep TJ for a fun daily beater and rock crawler. It has the 4.0 straight 6 with ~125k miles on it. I think the injectors are stock and never has been replaced. I also think I have a weeping injector. It is hard to start, will sputter for a few minutes, then runs like a champ.

So 2 questions: 1. How can I test to see if an injector is weeping? The FPR is a part of the fuel pump, so when I check the FP, I can't tell if the system is losing pressure on the injectors or the FPR. 2. How much for a set of 6?

I wonder why this is. Because of the short distance and lack of space under the body for routing the exhaust system? Bunches of cars have large displacement motors and are not loud. Look at the old Mopar 383s and the Chevrolet 454 cars. They came from the factory with good sound but not too loud. I guess they just used those big old can mufflers to keep them quiet and all the Hot Rodders took them off and replaced them with glass packs and Hush Thrush Mufflers.

I don't believe that displacement is the problem. My engine is just noisier, due to a little higher compression and taller cam with shorter duration. Even with stock exhaust, I'd hear the motor more. I could put stock manifold, cats, resonator, mufflers, and tubes back on, but the motor would be choked quite a bit. The motor would feel like you gave it a beer, but made it drink from a coffee straw.

As for the mopars and other muscle cars, the mufflers are also located in a very different place. The tubing after the mufflers are much longer than on a Corvette. This changes the tone and resonance characteristics. Kinda like comparing apples and oranges.

I'm curious as to how this turns out.

My car has Melrose LT headers to X pipe to Random Tech HF cats to PE "mufflers" with 3" pipe. It doesn't really have a drone sound, but it's still very loud inside the car. I heard the same system on a stock LT1 and it was much quieter. I think you will find that the noise is a trade off to a built 383, but hope this is wrong. I'd love to have more of a sleeper sound on my car, so please keep us posted!!

I'm curious, anyone think any of these still exist? Hmmm, what if? Imagine if you got your hands on a old Cutlass and stuffed that under the hood. That would be very cool!! Would definitely be a conversation piece?

Hope I'm not to late, just got home from work.

Anyway, I'd be happy with any of these. Love Biggrizzly's interior, can't go wrong with a FI in a Vert like Tommy, one of the best colors like that Ruby of Steves40th, pristine condition of Pianoguy's LT4, hmmm, I'm finding something I like about each.... I need a combination of each Vette listed!

So, if I have to pick one, I'm an all business guy, so my vote goes to Spectatorracing.

If my wife could live without the creature comforts of my yellow bomb, it would go on a diet and be of similar style.

Sounds like the insulation is breaking down and the rebuilder just cleaned it up and didn't rewind. I wonder if a simple redip and bake will fix your problem.

Yep, I agree. When it is hot and you turn the key, do you hear the plunger strike? This is a single clicking sound, not the dead battery multiple click sound.

How was the show Matt? My family had a postponed Easter celebration in the Branson area all weekend, so I was out of town and didn't get to make it. The good news is that I saw you Thursday, ~6:30 by the Tan-Tar-A exit, you were heading North toward town on 54. Was that you? If so, car looked and sounded great!

Sounds good Matt.

Folks, I saw this car about 2 weeks ago and the motor looks just as good as the pictures. There's also a bunch of little touches that you don't see in the pictures. Great job! I see lots of polishing in Matt's future : ).

White smoke..??? This does not sound like a running rich problem. Have you checked your oil to see if it looked like fresh or black oil, or does it look milky? When checking oil, does it appear that the oil level is increasing?

Tyler, you're too funny. I'm mainly doing this for information on the car, not to win points by the judges. I hope this will mitigate questions like, Is that NOS bottle real, what kind of wheels are those, what are those buttons on the console, etc....

Great suggestions. I'll reword the D44. JeffK, thanks for the catch, I didn't even think about that meaning "T" tops. I'll reword to Dual Targa Tops.

Thanks again, I've looked at it so long, that the little details are missed.

This will be used for any show (Corvette or other). I just wanted something that gave 10,000 ft descriptions of the car. Many other mods are under the skin.....

Here's another direct link, if you cannot read it. I'll try and upload it tonight.

Thanks to everyone for their input and opinions. Attached is the one I'm going with. What do you think? The only change that needs to be made is change Holly to Holley.

Nice layout, but needs to be tech correct to your car. I like it better then the old air brush boards we used to use.

What is not tech correct? I'm going to remove the stock intake picture, correct the MSD wording, and replace the logo with a 91 - 96. Is this what you mean by tech correct?

How about replacing the red intake picture and the engine picture with these (cleaned up though)?

Flyboy, great catch! I didn't even notice the red in the logo. I'll find another one.

383tbimachine, you are correct. What I was after was a stock LT4 picture, then at the bottom, picture items that has been modified. The red intake was powder coated yellow to match the car. Think another picture should be used in place of the stock picture?

What do you think of this show board for my C4?

I'm in no way talented enough to do this, so a buddy of mine on CF (Relorien) published this for me. It's in .pdf, so I'm going to try and load it.

Opinions??

Having technical difficulty... OK, how do I load a .pdf?

Don't make me take a picture of the computer screen..

Good numbers! I'm betting between 425 and 450 rwhp when it climes the rpm range. Is this without the N2O kit?

The 96 GS was a red gut vert. Exterior was a 8.5/10, but I'd put the interior at 6/10. I didn't see the miles, but it had been driven. I didn't see it cross the block, so I don't know what it went for. It's actually a little rare to see them cross the block in my neck of the woods. It was great seeing one there.

Tommy, if I would have known you like the baby and bigger birds, I would have taken some pictures of a 65 barn find. It was white and on the description, said survivor show prepped. It had dirt all over the body and interior, engine, and I don't know if it ran. Literally looked like someone drug it out of a barn, after sitting for many, many years. It was in pretty good shape, just dirty. Great to see something like this.

I got to attend the Mecum auction in KC yesterday and below is a slideshow. There were many cars, from every make and model that I'd like to have in my garage! There was a Bloomington Gold survivor, benchmark, 1965 396/425 Vert, many C2's, 90 ZR-1 with less than 4k miles, Grand Sport, but my favorite was the gold /copper custom (first car in slideshow) and a VW utility vehicle.

Had a great time!

Those look great! Vote to black out the center caps. Either way, that will really dress up the vette.

Probably not. I've got a Dig 6 box that is a piggy back system to set rev limiter when line lock is engaged and rev limiter and timing retard based on the N2O shot. When it works, it works well, but these things are very touchy. I don't think this will solve your problem. I think Bogus is on to something. If you are sure the opti, plug wires, connections, fuel pressure is good through all of the RPM range, and tune is good, coil might be the issue.

Bogus, you asking about the MSD box due to their sensitive nature or wanting to see if the box has a rev limiter?

What is the condition of the coil?

I would think the fuel pump will keep up, it is sending 100 psi down the line, which is restricted to a nominal 45 psi at the rail. I don't think there is a different pump for the LT4, for example.

Great point. Coil could cause this.

I was thinking about volume, not pressure. Going to 30lb injectors would allow more fuel volume to enter the chamber. When the motor revs over 5700 rpm, does the fuel pressure drop? If so, this could be volume related. Again, stretching here.

How much flow or fuel does it push? Was your car an LT1? Those were not designed to rev much past the rpm range you feel the miss, so curious to see if it just cannot push sufficient fuel volume. I'm stretching here...

If the tune is good and you are getting spark, it's got to be fuel.

Sounds like a fun motor! Have fun with it.
