I'm just now (2:30am) working on hitting the sack. Got off work a bit ago and got busy here on the lower control arms of my dd truck. I'm doing ball joints and bushings. Last w'kend I got one ball joint out, but the other decided to be a "female dog" about it, so I took it to a shop. Got some new bushings and the old ones slid out slick as snot. Just remove the inner steel sleeve, and the rubber loses a lot of it's friction to hold it in. Once I figgered that out, 20 minutes, tops. Went to put in the new ones and I think they're wrong because they just slide in mostly. Then when you pull it thru, it pops back out and won't stay at all. So now I gotta go back to the shop and show 'em these Moog's might be either wrong, or mis-packaged. Problem is the missuz wants me to go out looking for a new suit this AM. She's under the impression I want to go to some wedding this Saturday after I been working the past three weeks without a day off except when I played hooky one day. As Tim Allen once said, "I'd rather have my balls pounded flat with a wooden mallet!"

Well it wasn't rectified within an hour as I was given hope it might be, but it was by 4pm, EST. I gotta tell you, the people on the line were ALL courteous, despite my demeanor of frustration. One thing is that I made a point of NOT using any profanity, which is why they were willing to do what they could for me.

I think the big problem with ATT is not the people, but rather ATT itself. In my mind, ATT is a company that sells communication, yet is incapable of allowing its employees to communicate within the company. Even the installers need to get put on hold when calling in an issue. The customer service people are forced to use the same lame ass website to find answers that we have access to when attempting to help a client, and finally, when a new feature like using the Xbox as a U-Verse reciever issue I raised occurs, nobody has been trained to work with and assist the customer. I can't tell you how many time I heard something to the effect, "This is so new that noone knows what to do".
If the company I work for treated customers like ATT, we wouldn't be there anymore.

Re: Friday Chat 05.06.11

Biggrizzly, I hope things work out for the best for Kathie. I'll be thinking about your day while I fight thru mine.

While my problem is nowhere near as important as Kathie's,
It's still a tremendous aggravation.

The following rant was written over the course of an hour or more as I dealt with ATT.

We had ATT U-verse installed yesterday and it's now going into the 2nd full day of installation. When we called to order it, the salesdroid told us we could use my son's Xbox 360 as a reciever for one of the TV's. Upon the 1st attempt, we found the Xbox needed a bigger harddrive. So I went and got one, for ONLY $140. After that, the install was finished, I thought. At this point the installer had escaped and I was forced to deal w/ the people on the phone. After fighting it out and wasting a vacation day from work, some guy in Texas tells me the whole thing is because the original sales dink didn't bother to check a box, and now nobody can figure out how to check that box.

As per their advice, I called sales and they had no way to assist me. Go figure, huh? I told the dink that today is do-or-die for the U-verse as I have until tomorrow to either cancel Time-Warner or it automatically renews the contract. That being the case, ATT WILL have this resolved or I rip it out myself and they lose all business with me, including cell phones as I will no longer honor any contract I have with ATT. Let these idiots try what they want, but they won't get another dime of my money.

Comparativly, this is a small problem in life, but the frustration level it causes is the stuff strokes are made of.

I just got off the horn w/ a nice lady in retention and she was very patient with the whole thing, me included. During our 49-minute call, she was in contact with tech support and me. She was reassured on the other end that this will be resolved today, and very likely within an hour or so. I guess we'll see about that.

I've been looking at the options like you guys suggest, and my p/u needs tires soon as well. I've been looking at the Tirerack selection, and it not great. To make things worse, I'm running the 11" rears that narrow the selection even more. I really don't want to pay $1000+ for rubber, but I don't want junk either.

Since I'm not gonna be selling the Vette, I should at least think about some tires. The bridgestones I have now are about 15 years old, and with good tread, but I'm hearing that tires that old can and will have problems.
So what's the good brand these days guys? I'll need 'em in 275's(9-1/2") for the front and 315's(11") for the back.

Andy, I don't think alot of people remember this, but that little spoiler on the back of C3s was initially called a "Ferrari flare-up" as it was intended to mimic one of Enzo's creations of the 60's. Thanks again guys.

Thanks.
As it would happen, the monitors in question were both over 10yrs old. I got a new monitor from wally-worldand it seems to be working OK. I even got the extended warranty.
Thanks again for your help!

Hi gurus,
hopefully you can help me with this. A few months ago, my monitor died, so I grabbed one of the old ones out of the garage and hooked it up. Prob solved, I thought. Now today, my monitor died, so I got the last of the oldies out of the garage and it didn't come on either. we tried, but couldn't shutdown so I changed it while the pc was running. Then my wife hit reset and we're in business. So, did the computer not pick up the monitor as it didn't look for it until the reset button was hit? That's my theory. what do you guys think?

Also, are the deaths of these monitors unrelated, or is there a possible underlying cause? Possible bad video card? As it is, it looks like I have to get another monitor just to have on hand.

suggestions????????

I know that for some guys in different parts of the country it might not be too unusual to see a C4 ZR1 go cruising by but, for me, it's been a long time. I was on the highway when the Z came past. I saw it in my rear view 1st, and noticed the C4. Thinking to myself how good those cars look to me, he went by. I took a peek to see if it was a vanity plate and, holy cow! It's a wide-assed ZR1 out in the wild!
By now you're thinking, "Bob needs to get out more," and you're right. But is was still a treat to see that Z go by.

At least they know why they're losing 8%. We lost 9% in October '09 just because the new owners thought we made too much and since GM had all but left the area, there was no competition for employees with the use of wages.

The special ed teachers have been the ones that are best to work with. The same goes for some of the other teachers. From our experience, they're the ones that have kids of their own that have a need of one kind or another. Fortunately (spelled right?), our kids aren't severe enough to warrant a full-on special needs classification. I don't really want to spell out their details on a forum, but each of them have allowances for reading or auditory difficulties, plus other things. We've kept them in the general population of students as we know there will be no special-ed society for them as adults. Tending to their education has been my wife's efforts, and she's done well with them at home and on their behalf at school.

The teachers I've been ranting about are the ones that literally do not believe in such problems, but consider these to be behavior related issues. They also know they can't be so much as questioned for their action or in-actions as they are, "protected," by the union. This was laid out for us in confidence by a few of the more consiencious teachers that work with them.

Because of the feelings this topic has brought out in me, this will be my last posting on this thread.

Mmmmm. Let me think about that for a minute.........wait, I almost had something brilliant to say, nuts I lost it.

All I can think of to say is that it's called a free enterprise system. If you work hard, have a good service with honest people and take care of the customer then the word will get around and you will be in demand even if you charge more then the other guy. Now if you work for a guy and do a good job work hard and take care of his clients then he would be stupid to not take care of you. So it's all about quality of work and basic intergrity. I think that would apply to about any kind of work I can think of.

It's all about free trade and competition. Building a better mousetrap and all that. Anything you put in there to try and artificially pump that up has the potential to try and make a level playing field out of what was never intended to be level. I'm just saying.

I'd have to agree with what you're saying as the way it "should" be. Where I work, we lost over 10% of our wage because General Motors shut down the truck plant. The reason behind it was that since they no longer had to compete with GM on wages, they could pay us less.

As far as poor performance, here in Kansas, teachers can be canned for poor performance, must go through due process, but it can and has been done. I don't think all of us are arrogant, but then again, I only know about 300-400 teachers and all here in Kansas.

I think you are in the wrong state. Ohio teachers top out around (as the TV reports) around 76k/year. You are indeed blessed and from a good stock of people if there's no arrogance in Kansas. Both my kids have some special educational needs and, although it must be provided by law, we have faced teachers who blatently say they, "have no reason," or just don't want to work with the requirements. One even got up from the meeting and said, "This is how I teach, take it or leave it!" That's what I call arrogance.

I know I'm tired of teachers earning twice what I make and they can't be fired for poor performance. I'm sick of their smug arrogance and having to pay for it. The same with most public employees. From some of the cops to the county workers. I had to lose 10 grand a year while a $hitpile of others have lost their jobs, homes, and who knows what else. Instead of laying off the public employees because their union won't allow wage concessions, why not have wage reductions that mimic the fluctuations of the economy as it impacts local governments ability to collect revenue?

Well, it doesn't look like I'm gonna be selling my '88, so I think I'd like to get a chip for it. Who's the good chip guy these days? My mods are listed below.

'88 'Vette, Glass top only, 4+3, Bose, Z51 w/ ZR-1 Rims. SR base/plenum, TPIS afpr, Air box w/ K&N, wires and pulleys, no screens, Flowmaster cat-back. Tri-Y Headers thru hi-flow cat, always MOBIL1. Also, when I put on the Super Ram I tossed the cold start injector, so I need the new chip to help with starting.

Oh GEEZ you guys............don't get me going on this crap.

I agree, America has turned it's back on it's manufacturing ability. From what I see, it's because wants their kids to have to do what they did to earn a living. Others think that working with your hands is just not good enough for their kids. There are political reasons more to blame, but Americans need to embrace their ability to make and build things.

My 1st Vette was a '68 'vert. These guys are dead on about the windshield being a problem area. ALSO, look on the frame where it kicks up to the rear end. Right there below the rear control arm mounting bolt, at the bottom where the kick up mates to the center section of the frame. This has been another problem area for '63-'82's, depending upon the life they've had. Check all over this area for rust thru and other rust damage.

I was about 16 or 17 when, "LeMans", came out in the theaters. As I recall from reading one of the car mags of the day, and from watching the movie, McQueen drove a Porsche 917 in that film. Further, the Ferraris weren't really Ferraris in the film. When the producers approached Enzo Ferrari to get some cars for the film, Enzo wouldn't do it because a Ferrari didn't win the film's race. The prominent Ferraris in the film were actually, rebodied Lolas, if I'm recalling correctly.

I'm not saying this is the end of discussion, just my .02 as I recall it.

Instead of emailing this, I'll past it here....

If there were ever anything worth putting on your refrigerator door to daily remind us of what we have to do come November, this is it...

Subject:
Retribution is less than 5 months away!
Take a look at this and just remember elections in November 2010.
U..S. House & Senate have voted themselves $4,700 and $5,300 raises.
They voted to NOT give you a S.S. Cost of living raise in 2010 and 2011.
Your Medicare premiums will go up $285.60 for the 2-years
You will not get the 3% COLA: $660/yr.
Your total 2-yr loss and cost is -$1,600 or -$3,200 for husband and wife.
Over these same 2-years each Congress person will get $10,000
Do you feel SCREWED?
Will they have your cost of drugs - doctor fees - local taxes - food, etc., decrease?
NO WAY.
Congress received a raise and has better health and retirement benefits than you or I.
? Why should they care about you?
? You never did anything about it in the past.
? You obviously are too stupid or don't care.
? Do you really think that Nancy, Harry, Chris, Charlie, Barney et al care about you?
Send the message to these individuals --- ⤽YOU'RE FIRED!â¤
In 2010 you will have a chance to get rid of the sitting Congress: up to 1/3 of the Senate and 100% of the House!
Make sure you're still mad in November 2010 and remind their replacements not to screw-up.
It is ok to forward this to your sphere of influence if you are finally tired of the abuse.
Maybe it's time for Amendment 28 to the Constitution..
"Congress shall make no law that applies to the citizens of the United States that does not apply equally to the Senators or Representatives, and Congress shall make no law that applies to the Senators or Representatives that does not apply equally to the citizens of the United States ."
Let's get this passed around, folks - these people in Washington have brought this upon themselves! It's time for retribution. Let's take back America .
If you don't forward this to all your friends you're just part of the problem of national apathy.

thanks for the help guys. Other sites look okay, and some of the ebay sites are okay as well, just a certain few.

FWIW....
I'm angry at what happened at the start of WWII. But here's why my dislike for asians lives on.
I used to work for a volunteer donation blood bank in Dayton. We went to the Honda plant in Marysville, Ohio with a proposal for annual blood drives. Part of the presentation was that the plan could be considered part of their annual charitable donations. There were several of us there that day to represent the blood center. After hearing the portion regarding charitable donation, one of Honda's HR staff stood and stated that Honda already gave generously to ONE charity. She stated, "We give American's jobs so we can sell cars here. That is our charity." She then left the room.
That's what drives my dislike for the ever increasing asian arrogance.

"We give Americans jobs so we can sell cars here. That is our charity."

I knew it! I'm glad I put this on here. It just proves my point that the critics are a bunch of know-it-alls that have no idea how to just enjoy themselves.

My son had plans to go see the "airbender", then the other kid listened to the critics and wouldn't go. I looked it up on the net and no one had any real gripes other than something they could say to further thier organizations.

I think those critics are stooopid. We went and saw it and it's a pretty good movie. It's not of the sci-fi quality that we've come to expect, but I'm glad I saw it. I think the fact that this film seems more geared toward the under 20 crowd is what takes away. Not the story. I think it's a better story line than Avatar, which btw is the name of the animated series that Airbender is based on. The effects are decent, although the way the characters overdramatically dance around is a bit much. But look at it as a story, and as a movie that stands on it's own and believe me, there's far worse drivel on screens to waste your money on.

Like the others, I haven't done business with them. I do know from 17 years of purgatory with a 68 'Vert, and 16 years with my C4, you'll never be sorry after dealing with a reputable supplier.
Ecklers, Mid-America, Keen-Vette, and any local suppliers you can contact are a really good way to get started. I've also dealt with some of the suppliers the others have noted and they're a good place to get started.

Last nite I decide to change the oil and lube the Suburban and my truck. The truck is easy. Change filter, drain, 6 lube points, refill, done. The Sub is no fun at all. It becomes alot easier by removing the two plastic splash pans, but the access to the eleven lube points is still a bit difficult. In particular the idler arm. But this time, it seemed like each one of the little boogers was determined to fight me to the death over taking grease. The lower right ball joint was the worst. I even tried to change out the zerk fitting, but guess what...it's got no wrench flats! I finally had to let it go and I'll hit a quick lube to see if their equipment can do any better.
What a fight! At least I got the oil changed.
