Afternoon guys. I got up early and took an hour trip SW to take the grandson to his football game. They lost, but they had a good time. stopped on the way home and ate, then came on home, unloaded the junk and then took the grandson back to his mom (and half hour drive the other way). Did some grocery shopping and just got back. Hopefully tomorrow I can rest.

Tommy, sounds like you had fun. I have some areas on the front of the Corvette, several on my pickup and a couple on the wife's car that need some wet sanding, but like Brad I'm a bit hesitant to start in.

Floods are bad...everything stinks from the silt and crap. People may say "Oh, it's fresh water", but it's stinky. You have to tear the wallboard off and replace the insulation.

Hi, I'm Tom and I'm a Vette-a-holic. I've owned three over the years and I don't want to think about what I've spent...nor do I care It has been good to me.

Brad, you'll love the Corsa...I had the Corsa system on my 94 and loved the sound....and the lack of it (in the right instances).

Ron, you are old school, and I fight that fight with the kids all the time.

Chris, I like all sorts of cars too, but I am content (for the time being) with the Corvette.

Matt, kids will be like that, what's happening is sometimes a mystery. Hope that you have a better night tonight.

I have been feeling pretty good, sure feels like fall here...highs in the mid to upper 50's yesterday and today. finally have all the kids back today, not sure what was causing the illness (Monday and Tuesday, I think).

Have a great day. :thumbright:

They could reduce the time for eliminations down to a couple of hours by running four at a time.

I'm on early here. I will head out in a few minutes to go to school, it's only 2 1/2 minutes away. Congrats Pete, make the most of your time together. I get to work the home volleyball match today so my evening will be filled. That's about it until I get to school to find out what else has gone to H3LL.

Lots of kids gone again today...makes my job easier....

Matt, that's a good project you're starting.

Pete, holy cow I hope you can get it figured out...doesn't sound too good though.

David, I've said before, if I move most of the dang furniture in the house goes with the house, or else I will pay someone to move me (and I don't think I can afford that). I don't envy that part of your new job. Been in our house 23 years and like the rest you guys my age, we have accumulated so much junk that never gets used...why do we keep it? Actually the house would be a breeze compared to my woodshop...holy pooh-pooh.

Back when I was just starting to drive, these were my first three cars.

1956 Chevy Bel Aire 2 door post 265 4bbl
1964 Dodge Polara 500 383 mag with a torqueflite 727
1964 Corvette coupe 350/250 (out of a 70 Chevelle) 4 speed.

I was a huge Mopar fan for many years. But when the gas crisis of the 70's hit I didn't think I could afford to drive the Dodge and that's when I bought the Corvette, it did about twice what the 383 mag did and without a penalty in performance. The 56 I don't and never did miss after I sold it. The Dodge....dang, I wish I still had it. And the Corvette, well that goes without saying.

That sucks big time, Matt. Won't your insurance pay for the repair? Mine does, and most will I think, I'd check into it. I understand, it's the principle of the thing.

Not much for me today. I am going to work out in the shop (wood) as I have to build a replica of an antique table base, for a single pedestal table. The original, someone cut down to make a coffee table, now the current owner wants it back to dining table height. Means I have to glue up a hollow octagon and turn it on the lathe. It should take me a bit to get it ready for gluing.

Brad, thanks for sharing. Your show had a lot more cars than the one I went to today. I have to admit that the 66 Hemi Coronet has to be my favorite. The 50 Olds has to be a close second.

I watched my middle grandson play football, then went to a car show. Mine and a 94 roadster were the only Vettes. A couple of MG's, a Viper, bunch of old muscle cars and a few hotrods. I didn't win anything (I didn't expect to), but had a good time and planted a few seeds about Corvettes.

One little guy, about 10 or so, with his mom and grandmother(assumed) came by and said to his mom "I can see myself in that car.", pointing at my Corvette. I said to him "Really? You can see yourself in this Corvette?" His mother said "Oh, he loves Corvettes," I said, as I opened the door, "Well, you had better get over here and sit in it." His eyes lit up like huge spotlights, "You really mean it?" I said "Sure, why not?". He jumps in and sits back with this huge grin on his face, Grandma says "Can I take his pictures with him in there?"..."Well you'd better, I don't think he'll smile like that again for a while." As he got out he said "Thank You for letting me sit in your car." His mom and grandma thanked me as well. That was worth more than than any award I could have received.

Hey guys, plan time again....Most of my students were here today, so maybe we are running the flu/cold/illness thing down some.

I get to pull the float with my pickup in the parade tomorrow, so I guess I should clean it up some today. I brought my detailing stuff with me so as I sponsor the final day of decorating, I can do a little cleaning.

Wow David, to sell your boat that fast is amazing in this economic slump...must have been priced right.

I know many of you guys fish, I'm tickled you enjoy it, but it's just not my thing. I'm more like Bill, "Let's go for a ride."

I'm here, plan time, still have a lot of sickness here at school...so far no H1N1, but I suspect it's not too far away. I am staying for a while again tonight to supervise float construction. I'm printing off several posters for the parade right now (I got a large format printer here for my drafting/design classes)

Oh, they won't act quite that fast here....the super will calm the people by 'saying' that he's trying to find someone, but won't after a while and then turn it over to the maintenance guys, or pillage the place by selling off the equipment.

We bought a Samsung DLP several years ago (720) it has a pretty darn good picture. Had to replace the bulb once and recently the color wheel. But it keeps hanging in there. I bought a 32" Soyo for the basement about two years ago and last Christmas the youngest daughter wanted a new TV so we gave her the Soyo (she and her hubby were thrilled). Then in January I ran across a 42" LCD 1080i for $499 delivered, I went ahead and bought the 3 year extended warranty for $89. I love the HD channels.

Got to admit, I've never had that happen. Sawdust fixes nearly anything.

I did get the tranny fluid and filter changed while watching the kids work on the float. Had to stop a few times to give them a hand, but all turned out well.

Well, I turned 40 as well. My mid-life crisis happened that summer.....I got my left ear pierced. When I came back to school it shocked everyone...."that a male teacher would get his ear pierced was just blasphemy." Little did I know that the school board was plotting diabolical deeds to get back at me. They made my life hell through that school year, but in the end I won out and all their plans were spoiled. I lost a lot of respect for some people that year, but I'm still here and they have all gone on to other things.

My oldest daughter was a sophomore at Creighton University, My middle daughter was in high school and the youngest daughter was in middle school. Wife was working at the same job she'd had since 1981.

Still have lots of kids out today. I built the youngest daughter, a bathroom vanity in a couple of hours. Glued it together this morning, now with time on my hands, I'll work on the face frame. I also GET to stay after school today and sponsor freshman class float decorating. Thank goodness we are doing it here in the school auto shop...that way I'm going to work on my pickup (change tranny fluid/filter).

Liable to be a long week......

We've got a lot of kids sick today. This class I'm down to one kid, so I gave him a study hall, no sense trying to teach a lesson, then have to do it again when the rest gets back.

I didn't want to get up this morning, the weekend was too short. The week will probably be a long one with all the cr@p associated with homecoming.

Hey guys, I was so tired after the events of Saturday that I slept in until 9am...I haven't done that in years. I went out and cleaned up the Vette and put it away, then the wife and I went to town and picked up groceries for the week and I bought new entry lock sets for the house and shop. For the first time ever the locks all have matching keys.

I came in here a little while ago and had an email from my friend I played golf with yesterday....we won the tourney and I'm getting all my money back plus some....YEA!

Well back to the grind tomorrow...well actually more than the grind, as we have homecoming this week and I'll have to sponsor float decoration a couple night this week.

Hey guys,

I got home from a long day. Golf today, I didn't hit the ball very well, but as a team we were in first place after the morning session. Got home, went to church and then we had the church bazaar. I bought a "Mystery Package" which ended up being a night at a ritzy hotel, brunch, tickets to a show and a nice bottle of wine. So I did OK. Tomorrow, I'm resting....

Haven't lost any yet, but had one (USMC) get hit hard and now is disabled.

You know when I watched Leno and his 'street walking' segments, I used to think "Nobody is that stupid", but I've grown to believe that I was wrong.

I've always been a little bit of a history buff, so maybe I'm an exception, but there are some people who don't even know basic facts. Every year when 12/7 rolls around, I ask people "do you know what today is?". You'd be amazed how many people in their 20's and 30's can't even tell me! Sad, really.

Matthew

Yea, my dad was a WWII vet. But as a kid I can't remember him talking at all about the war. If you asked him about it he'd say something like "...that's ancient history" or ...Gee, I don't remember". It wasn't until he was in his 70's that we got to hear some of the stories. He even wrote of one event and submitted it to the Air Corp reunion groups newsletter and it was published (I now have a hardcopy). The war put a huge mark on his personality. He's gone now and any other stories he has are gone forever.

A moment of prayer for those who have given of themselves.

Well, I missed yesterday entirely. My planning time was consumed with helping a middle school teacher with some projects he is trying to do with his students. Then after school I drove and hour and a half to watch my grandson play football, by the time I got home, I was dead tired. Tonight I head southwest (about and hour and a half), to a friends house and to play in a golf tourney tomorrow. Then we will hustle back and Saturday evening we are having a Bazaar at church to raise money for the religious education classes, and I help with the auction, so i have a busy day up. Hopefully Sunday I can relax a bit, as next week is going to be a busy one as well.

Homecoming week is a b!tch, I am a freshman class sponsor and have to help with the float construction. And we have a spirit week to go along with homecoming and that is a major distraction to actually "teaching". Oh well, such is life.

quick note here....Our Zoo has a yearly membership available and then they have a reciprocal agreement with other zoos so you can go to them free as well. We joined our local zoo, then used the pass at the zoo in Omaha, NE. What the membership cost was less than what it would have cost to get into the Omaha Zoo, so it was more than worth it.
