G'day mates! Sunny here but I don't know about the temps. Looks like March is coming in like a lamb though. Tying up some loose ends and getting packed. March is when it all gets started for my real work. All the stuff I sold over the winter will have to be distributed before planting which is usually around the 10th of April.

Fighting a bit of a head cold so did not work out today. Only made it through about half of yesterdays. My recouping powers are not what they used to be. I will lay off a few days and come back stronger I hope.

Let's get after it Guru's, have a good day! I wonder if my headers will show up today?............naaaa!

I just read in the paper this morning that there is a move to keep a new oil pipeline out of the sandhills portion of the State. It of course is the quickest route from Canada to the refineries down south. They say it threatens the Ogalala aquafer which would be like trying to go right through the redwoods in California. Of course it will cost millions more to go around so here we go, just like Andy is saying.

It seems that the people selling them have only good results. I am sure that over the years enough folks have tried them on the dragstrip and such to not see enough difference to warrent the cost.

Me too.

But it's a 1000 feet now.

That's 0 to 160 feet in 1 second.

That's funny, I thought the 1/4 was looking kindof short but just thought they were going that fast. Lord, how fast would they be going if they went the full 1/4 mile? I can see why they had to shorten up the track. Thanks for the heads up!

Everything is limited by something all the time. There are no easy answeres to energy. It isn't easy to crack a gal of crude but we have the infrastructure in place to do it. As we have been through in previose threads ethenol has it's weak points. Wind energy is frought with legal issues and the high cost and maintenance of the generators. Solar energy has potential but is pricy and needs further work.

I think there is hope for synthetic fuels but much work needs to be done there before that can be mainstream. At this point the quickest way to rid ourselves of the ongoing rollercoaster ride called the Mideast is to develope our own vast reasources and become energy independent that way. Just the other day there was a thread about new oil reserves found in Montana and Wyoming. Huge amounts of sweet light crude and that does not even count the oil shale banks in Canada.

We need new refineries now and to start drilling new wells, then we can tell the not so nice folks overseas that we don't need what they got, sell that shit to China and India. We're good. To do that you are going to have to meet the invironmentalists head on and make it so everyone can have it work.

We need to buy time, and since we are set up with the infrastructure that we have and have all this oil of our own why in the world aren't we moving ahead with this?

Good morning! Had a huge work out Saturday and off yesterday but had nothing this morning. Made it about half way through and said the hell with this. Fighting a little head cold and I probably need to let my old body catch up and heal up a little. I have been at it hard for a month.

Leaving mid week for the Valley of the Sun so have got to get everything ready to go. Long list of stuff. Cold and clear here today. Run what ya brung today Guru's, have a good one!

Don I found this link which deals with an 85 wanting quicker ratio. The people who sell the quick ratio boxes should have some info on how to do the conversion, you would think. You may have seen this already.

He are some of my favorite quotes on aging:

I have a profound respect for old age. Especially when its bottled.

Aging seems to be the only available way to live a long life.

This is my favorite: I will never be an old man. To me, old age is always 15 years older than I am.

Live hard, ride fast, and die young! (That's how I used to look at it.) Now it's, Live easy, ride slow, and enjoy!

Went to church and now having some lunch. I had a good day working in the shop on my car yesterday, but man am I sore today after crawling up down and over that thing. That's gotta be good for me, right? Enjoy your day Guru's.

Brad wherever you are, smile and enjoy the ride!

Yeah I think everybody makes them. These are supposed to fit well and have good access to the plugs and such.

I should say that when I ordered I needed a set with EGR but no AIR and that goofed them up. Most guys must dump the EGR at the same time and so they needed to make that side up special. They are coated for heat and that takes some extra time also. If I had deleted the EGR I think they would be on the car by now. So I shouldn't be too hard on them.

Still it seems to be taking a long time. It's like something from the chrome shop it seems to take forever. They did send the other side and it will be here Monday. So I will be half happy.

I just had a speedometer go bad on one of my Duramax's. One place said 500 bucks to replace the other said $350. I got on line and found this guy who rebuilds them and sent the whole unit in and had it repaired for life for $65 and what it cost me to ship it to him.

I sent it on Monday and got it back on Friday. It looks brand new. You could call him or email him to see if he works on Vette stuff and if he could rebuild it for you and how much. Just an idea. He also does ECM's and such. Here is his link:

Simpler times but you can see the hardship in their faces. That kind of work and hard times is what built this country, I hope we don't soon forget it.

Stop it Matt you are making me hungry. Don take lots of backup stuff and don't forget a fuel surcharge. Tommy good to see your smiling face again. Glad your mom is better and glad you survived the trip. It was a little quiet in here with you gone.

It's winter out cold and snowy, so after my work out I will go out and work in the warm shop on my dream car. I talked to TPiS yesterday and they said it could be as much as 2 more weeks to get me my headers. That will be well over a month since the day of order. I told them that was unaceptable and someone better light a fire under their asses if they want to see anymore money out of me. I don't care how good their stuff is.

They are in Minnesota so I have to take that into account. Maybe I could send Brad down to raise holy ned with them? Wait he is on a luxo vacation. Good for him!

Have a good day Guru's

Yeah Bill, what were the brand names on those appliences? Just wondering.......in case I need to buy some new ones some day I will not buy those.

Here is a joke to cheer you up:

One night a wife found her husband standing over their baby's crib. Silently she watched him. As he stood looking down at the sleeping infant, she saw on his face a mixture of emotions. Touched by this unusual display, she slipped her arm around her husband. "A penny for your thoughts," she said. "it is so amazing!" he replied. I just can't see how anybody can make a crib like that for only $64.50."

Good Morning, -7 wind chill here with 1" of snow. Could have been worse. Did the Ab Ripper X for P90 this morning. Mommy, I don't feel so good!

Trying to wrap up some deals today but things are moving slow again with the return of winter. Watch your six out there today Guru's!

Nuts! I just discovered that Steve has the same signature line that I do. It's a good line though.

Kansas does not have a front plate and there is always a lot of Kansas cars up here. (Checking out the good life no doubt) so I think I could run without and keep the plate in the car and tell them that the thing was falling off. At worst I would get a fix it ticket and have to put it on and then start the whole process over again. Or just run the damn front plate.

Thanks, I saw my life on fast forward. Now I know why I still listen to 50's thru 70's music. I know there is still good music being made, but #1 hit music went on a steep decline from disco on. JMO.

No kidding! I don't even get what my kid is listening to. I like to listen to XM radio and always listen to the 60's and 70's. I will often go to the 50's also. My step-dad who is 88 loves the 40's channel. He knows all the songs and all the artists.

I can see the evolution of the music as it moved forward but you are right about Disco the evolution stopped and turned into something else.

Then if you do get the number right it takes a month because of backorder. Hurry up and wait. Good morning all. Had a rough night last night. I got a call about suppertime that I did not get a big job I had bid on. I spent some time getting it ready but in the end got hammered. The fact that I was 2nd out of 4 did not help. Nuts! Oh well at least I still have a 90 corvette that is all tore apart.

Big storm moving in, Brad you better leave early for your vacation so you don't get snowed in.

Gotta go make the living, have a good day everyone!

Top of the morning to ya! Just did my bicep and back routine and I couldn't lift much at the end. I'm hitting the wall Matt, I gotta push threw it. This will be one month at the end of this week. I am now 1/3 ripped.

Brad you guys have a good trip. Have a few Boat Drinks as you toast the good life. Have them put 2 of those little umbrellas in them for you. P.S. you should order the headers and they will be there when you get home.

Gotta go work like a dog today to help pay for my own headers that never seem to want to arrive. It will be a month from order to delivery which I am thinking is to long no matter what their excuses are. Try to encourage someone today even if it's yourself.

Oh man they are all three on there. I could remember the air foil but did not recognize what the others were when I visited that site as a new guy. Sorry to make you go over old ground.

No not for me, for my car. I was reading the new Ecklers's C4 catalog and ran across a couple of items that I can't remember ever seeing mentioned on the Guru and wonder if anyone has had any expieriance with any of them.

One is the Throttle Performance Switch which is said to instantly improve throttle response and delivers max rate of fuel and timing advance. It plugs in line with the throttle position sensor.

The other one is the Air Intake Temp sensor relocating kit. This is supposed to dramatically improve performance by hanging the air temp sensor out in the cool air.

Also the ever present throttle body air foil that will add 11.8 hp and 12.5 ft'lbs of torque. TPiS has said that they came up with the air foil and have sold so many, no one even questions it's power adding abilities. Yet I know the Guru has said they don't work.

Just interested in what you guys think. I am always looking for performance adders.

That is a big reason the Guru exsists, to help stamp out the Corvette tax. Welcome to the club!

BTW, what about all these "flex fuel" cars? Is GM or purchasers benefiting from government subsidies for these E85 compatible vehicles? (And yet they never see a tank of E85)

We bought an 09 Tahoe with the flex fuel 5.3L engine and there was no subsidy program that went with it. We have run E85 in it and it runs good with it but does not get the milage.

You will need to provide the year of your car and there is a way to read the codes without a reader.

We also have a lack of reliable refineries in this country. Too many are exposed in Louisana and California. And when someone wants to build a new one - NIMBY! Stop whining and take one for the team, damnit.

That's all good news but why don't we ever hear about it?
We have 2 big pipelines going through Huskerland as we speak bringing oil from those northern fields and Canada to the refineries in Oklahoma. I asked why the hell don't they build new refineries in North Dakota or Canada. I was told it is impossible to build a new refinery with the current environmental laws we have.

They are having enough trouble with just getting the pipelines through the State. It's all politics and big oil doing their thing.

I believe that about unions but not ethenol. You should have a choice at the pump. Regular unlead or E10 for less money. Get even there.

Joe is it the ethenol you don't like or the fact that it has price support. To get the infrastructure built took some help. Those plants are not cheap to build and with the extra money spent on rail siddings to get the stuff shipped it has broke a lot of investors.

Right now there is a huge plant 30 minutes from here that is almost ready to start production and has been shut down for the second time. The cost of corn is to high for them to make it work even with govt subsidy. The old adage around here is that it is the 3rd owner of an alcohol plant that finally makes a profit.

What do you think we should do? How do we slow down the massive amounts of foreign oil that we slurp up at an alarming rate? There are no real good solutions other then go back to horses but then the price of hay would skyrocket. If ethenol could stand on its own would that then be ok? It's complicated as Andy says, but right now the farm sector is booming and in these tough times you have to have some winning cards somewhere even if they are up your sleave.

Good morning! Nice and sunny and freezing here today. I spent most of yesterday working in the shop on my car. I got the tunnel insulated and was impressed with how well the stuff worked. It has the adhesive on the back. I will post pics when I get the car in the air.

Matt I did the same thing with my insurance guy. My over the internet quote was cheaper by several hundreds of dollars so I took the quote to him. I have everything with this guy, home, business and business vehicles, personal cars, everything. I did some bitching and he did some tweaking and we got it closer. Later I got to thinking about the multiple claims we have had over the years, mostly my kids getting into fender benders as they grew up. Then there was the time I put my work pickup on its side in the ditch and when Miss California ran into the back of someone out on the 480 in LA. Those claims were all handled quickly with no questions asked and done by good bodyshops using good replacement parts. My rates did go up on the teen drivers after their mishaps but not that bad.

Sometimes it's worth a little more to have that peice of mind and know that all I have to do is go down to his office and pound on his desk if I have to. That's worth something, at least to me.

Got work to do and stuff to sell so I best be about it. We will be using attack mode delta this week Guru's, so let's get it done.

Ahh Joe, your pushing my buttons now! You have to understand that the govt is going to subsidise farming. It can be through ethenol or just in subsidy payments to help prop up the price of corn.

The govt has declaired that we need an oxygenator in our fuels to help reach the clean air standards. Where is that going to come from if you take ethenol out of the picture? You have a production and distribution infra structure set up and in place and that has taken 30 years to bring about. Nobody is arguing that it is the most efficiant fuel to produce, it isn't but it is something we can do to help reduce dependency on foreign oil and keep the air clean.

I have been in the Ag business all my life and until ethenol came around farmers were dependent on the govt tit to make their profits every year. The only farmers who were stand alone were the ones growing seed corn for the big seed companies, and their weren't to many of those.

We have taught the rest of the world how to farm and exports are not going to be enough to keep this big wheel rolling. In the past we had feeding cattle, exports and the fructose industry as the main uses for corn. Each year as our production increased through genetics and other methods we had larger and larger carryovers. This led to the basic economics of supply and demand. Too much corn and too low of prices. So in steps the govt to keep farmers from going broke.

We are 3 to 5 years away from 300 bu averages on an acre of irrigated corn. The modern corn plant has a 6 to 700 bu potential if you could get it enough energy and food. Ethenol is not driving up the price of food, number 2 yellow is not used in a lot of food production. It feeds cattle but all they do is feed them the mash which they like better anyway. Nothing lost there.

On top of all that 6 billion is chump change to those jerks up in the beltway who can throw a trillion away on a health care bill that is already a huge mess. No, ethenol is ok for the short run and 10 years from now we will be using other crops to make the squeeze. In the meantime farmers are enjoying a market that has the govt not directly making payment to them to keep them going. Which even at its worst was far under what other countries are paying their farmers.

That's all for now, rants over!

I bought something that was supposed to clip in to where the drinks go and it was such a pos that I just hung my head then threw it against the wall. I am looking for some stylish thin aluminum or stainless drink holders that will keep stuff hot or cold. I am sure they will have to be tall to hold anything.

Well they work a little more than that. My wife who says she can't wait to get your kids in her class says that she works 198 days which includes nights to work on stuff that the govt has to have done and a lot of meetings and such and also all the school they are required to take over the summer. She's out in the kitchen really getting wound up now. She says that school starts this year on Aug 8th for the love of God.

She is saying she has more degrees than a thermometer and has taught for decades and the assitant manager at McDonalds makes more than her. Geez I had to close the door.

As you can see it's a touchy subject around here.
