Well they work a little more than that. My wife who says she can't wait to get your kids in her class says that she works 198 days which includes nights to work on stuff that the govt has to have done and a lot of meetings and such and also all the school they are required to take over the summer. She's out in the kitchen really getting wound up now. She says that school starts this year on Aug 8th for the love of God.

She is saying she has more degrees than a thermometer and has taught for decades and the assitant manager at McDonalds makes more than her. Geez I had to close the door.

As you can see it's a touchy subject around here.

Nice work! What kind of HP does it make? Your shop looks nice and neat also. That's worrisome!

I'd have to agree with what you're saying as the way it "should" be. Where I work, we lost over 10% of our wage because General Motors shut down the truck plant. The reason behind it was that since they no longer had to compete with GM on wages, they could pay us less.

I'm sorry that happened. But GM's wages were bloated for the last 30 years. The union got too strong. Remember, my dad worked in the auto industry since before I can remember, and I saw it firsthand.

The trades unions in Chicago are way too strong. Morons get brought into the trade by their cousins, uncles, brothers, etc, and pass through apprenticeship. Then they make $32 an hour and are incompetent.

On the flip side, unions are necessary in many industries for safety standards and more.

It's a double edged sword.

Matthew

Well said Matt! It seems that depending on the trade or even where in the country you are makes a difference in what a right to work State means. There comes IMO a time when the original intent of the union, the reasons it was organized has long been forgotten and greed has taken over. On the other hand teachers would get even less then they do now if they did not have a group fighting for them.

My wife smiles at me, pats me on the chest and says that I am naive since I work for myself and that I just don't understand how it all works out in the real world. She is probably right in some aspects but I know how things work and what things are worth or should be worth anyway. I am starting to realize the other side of the story and you know how I hate to have to change my way of thinking.

Via con Dios Tommy, enjoy the ride and the best to your Mom! Went into the Big O yesterday to watch a good friends son wrestle in the State tournament. He won his two matches and took 3rd in State. They hold it at the Quest Center which is a huge new venue for sports and entertainment. There were 10k folks at wrestling and they also had a huge multi state volleyball tournament going on in another part of the building and you wouldn't even know it was going on.

I always loved the Daytona 500. It signified spring was on the way. I to have fell by the wayside as the cars have gotten to be all the same. I am happy for the lack of injuries to the drivers, I think no one has died since Dale E. but in my youth it was about Dodge and Chevy and Ford with bigger engines and cars I could recognize. Mystery motors, Hemi's and the excitement of win on Sunday sell on Monday. It's become boring to me now, but that just may be me and my old age.

I have a list of things to do on my car and plan to spend the day in my shop puttering around. It is my day off from P90X so I am looking forward to it. I am getting better at doing the excercises and can almost get through one hours worth without hitting the pause button. Enjoy your day!

So tell us about the LS engine that is in your car. How hard was the conversion and what is a cost estimate on something like that? This might be old news to some of these guys but this is first time I have seen it.

I like it!

Yeah, I hear you! A good company would have kept paying the same and taken care of their people. My wife is in the teachers union here but it is her choice. The teachers who opt out take some heat from the others because they are told that the non union ones get all the benifits that the union has supposedly fought for. And the beat goes on!

I have a 90 also and it has less miles. It runs well has good stock power (see Ultra's Dyno Runs thread)but I want to get all I can out of the stock engine. That means opening up the exaust and eventually unrestrict the intake side.

If done right there may be 40 to 50 hp to gain if all goes well. That's just my idea of what I want and I will have about 1500 in the exhaust and about the same I hope in the top side. No cam no head work just letting what Chevy made do it's job.

If I was smarter I would be able to post the link to that thread but alas, I am not. Maybe someone would give me a hand with that. Good luck with your project. Lot's of info here at the Guru.

Not to forget these workers many times will work without permits, under the table, no workmans comp, no medicare, no social security, no taxes paid or collected. Right to Work fuels an underground economy. But you will get your services cheaper .... I guess.

Mmmmm. Let me think about that for a minute.........wait, I almost had something brilliant to say, nuts I lost it.

All I can think of to say is that it's called a free enterprise system. If you work hard, have a good service with honest people and take care of the customer then the word will get around and you will be in demand even if you charge more then the other guy. Now if you work for a guy and do a good job work hard and take care of his clients then he would be stupid to not take care of you. So it's all about quality of work and basic intergrity. I think that would apply to about any kind of work I can think of.

It's all about free trade and competition. Building a better mousetrap and all that. Anything you put in there to try and artificially pump that up has the potential to try and make a level playing field out of what was never intended to be level. I'm just saying.

That has happened here also. The Catholic schools will not allow it or the other Christian schools. We have a girl who is on the team here and she has kicked a lot of the boys asses she goes up against. One other reason they don't want to wrestler her.

I see what you are saying Tommy but isn't that competition good for the consumer? You are saying if it was a Union State then everyone would be forced to charge a $100 an hour for 25 dollar an hour work.

Out here nobody gets paid as much as some parts of the country, but it doesn't cost a lot to live either. All I know is if the subs are not getting paid as much someone should let my plumber know because he doesn't seem to have got that message.

There is always something to do. Do we own the stuff or does it own us? Cooling down here today. Me and Ultraboy are headed into Omaha to the State wrestling championships. We have freinds who's kid is competing and is real good.

Still no parts from TPiS for my car but still plenty to do on it.

Went to a basketball game in a small town last night to see a nephew play his last game since he is a senior this year. Lots of latinos on the team. One of them fouled out and ripped off his jursey and threw it at the ref and then stormed off the court. Later he got in a pushing match with the school principle as he left the school. I am sure it won't go well for him on Monday. Nephews team won 65-28.

Gotta go have a safe easy day guru's.

Aww, they tried that camara thing here once or twice but cousin Billy kept popping them with his 30-30, so they finally gave up. Now they just try to catch you the old fashioned way.

Nice color! What was the HP rating I couldn't see it? The side pipes work well with it also. Those were nice Corvettes.

Oh yeah, Teebee, don't forget you get summers off too! My wife love's it when I pull that card out of my sleeve. No that whole thing up in Dairyland is about turning that State into a right to work State. Which means you do not have to join the Union if you don't want and they still have to hire you if you qualify. Nebraska and Kansas I believe have always been right to work States. All States need to be!

I can't believe Mobile 1 would not do the job. Isn't that the oil that is used in the new Corvettes from the factory? I don't think they would trust just anything in a new LS9. Mobile 1 is the best all round oil and Royal Purple is the best if price is no object according to some folks.

Of course if you were using Mobile 1 in your engine when it spun the bearings that may make you a bit nervous, but it might not have mattered what you had in it at that point.

It started out about balancing the budget now the Democrates have run off and hid while it looks like a mini Egypt around the capital building. They say they are trying to break the unions, what do think about that? I am not a big union guy.

Nice weather here today low 50's. Tommy hope your Mom continues to recover, yeah what about that pnumonia shot?

Jeff hope things go well for your son and everybody gets along. The focus has to be on him. Yikes Bill, shovel time.

Big Griz I had to laugh when you said there was a Mexican convention going on on your roof. When we had our roof done a few years back the same thing happened. Early morning they get here and start work, they back an old Cheevy Van in and open up the back doors and 2 big speakers start blaring Ay yiyiyi music. There was some young girls with them and later in the day they put there towels out and were laying out in the sun. I didn't mind that but my wife was not very happy. Hell of a job on the roof though.

It's Friday, that's all I gotta say! Have a good one!

Out here it is about the same. Problems are delt with quickly and severly if needed. All the problem kids are identified early and are given some extra attention to see if they can help the kid adjust. Church youth groups have good attendence and the youth pastors are always visible at ball games and concerts. Everyone knows who the bad asses are and keeps an eye on them. The group Ultraboy runs with all have a good set of parents and we all keep up on them and with cell phones that makes it easier.

I tell him that in a town this size nothing happens that I won't hear about. So keep your nose clean kid! LOL That is what my old high school football coach used to tell us.

We had a healthy fear of our teachers or you could call it respect maybe. They didn't put up with any shit and we knew it. The worse thing was to embarrass your family by getting in trouble and then having to face the old man when you got home. Back then the principle would call home and tell your Dad about how you were caught trying to look up Sally's dre.......errr I mean fighting in the parking lot after school. Then there would be hell to pay!

Maybe 70 here today! I see a Harley ride in my near future. I have a list of things to do but may lose interest by mid afternoon. See the previous sentence.

We put on new downspouts and replaced a few gutters this fall. We went with the 4 or 5 inch wide downspouts and the new stainless gutter guards. We should be ready when it comes.

I also got some of that truck bed coating and a roller to work on the inner fenders while I wait for my headers.

Have a great day!

My wife is a teacher and she says that teaching is not like any other job. For the most part she agrees with the ranting teachers analysis but her take is kids will go to the path of least resistance because they are immature. They can't help it, they are kids.

The problem lies with society overall. She blames the parents or lack of parents who will discipline kids at home not expect the school to raise their kids and then bitch when the kid gets in trouble. My wife is almost daily lugging some kindergartner down the hall kicking and screaming, headed to the principle office. I think I told you about the one that would yell, "you cold bitch, you cold bitch! As he was carted down the hall. Nice! And these are the little kids. She now calls Mike the janitor and he hauls them off for her. Probably not in his job discription.

What you don't hear about are the kids who are doing it right. The ones that behave and listen and want to learn. The bad ones get too much attention and the good ones sometimes go unnoticed.

Back to the teachers rant. I don't think that is something she should get fired about. Although here my wife goes to meetings put on by the school where lawyers will tell them be very careful what you put on the internet it can and will come back to haunt you. Rant all you want at home or even with close friends at the bar but don't go with it on the net. If she has problems she needed to go to the school and point out the trouble makers and get the admin involved and then work harder with the ones that want to learn. I can remember bad kids in school, but I can also remember the principle taking a paddle made by the shop teacher and pounding on their butt and then they knew they were going to get it again when they got home.

What happened to those days?

Ya it's a beautiful morning here in fly over country. My new headers have never arrived so I called them and they had to make the passenger side one because I wanted an EGR but no AIR plumbing. I told them to send me the drivers side and I can start on that.

Wow, what a day! I have farmer meetings and then more stuff to do. Ran errends on my Harley yesterday. I just pulled it out dirty and dusty and rode it. Niiiice! Had a big smile on my face. Nothing sounds as good as that thumping V-twin. Except maybe my new exhaust system on my Vette. We will see.

Have a good one guru's!

Spare the rod, spoil the child. My Grandma Tilly as she was doing her best to keep me from being spoiled. Didn't work.

Mine are torx heads but my car is a lot older then yours. This brings another question to mind, what are folks using to restore the original black color. Mine are real washed out.

Sun is coming up and I got cakes on the griddle. Mmmmm! Got some meetings today with folks. Trying to sell stuff and get things in order. Going to Phoenix in 2 weeks to hang out and see some spring ball. They have a big waterpark where we stay and this may be the year I try the big slide........naaaa!

David glad you made it. Sometimes you have to go just to see how much you liked where you were. Happened to me. Enjoy!

Onward and upward guru's, have a good day!

Nice work Don! How is your engine project doing? What is the ETA of it being ready to install?

Valentines Day! Do not screw this up!! There will be hell to pay if you do!

Did my P90X this morning and it did not hold a candle to the 4 or 5 hours of working out on a C4! Man I was tired and sore after that. Slept like a baby after a hot soak and a couple of advils. MamaMia.

Let's get out there and kick some ass today, it's great weather for it.

did you guys get your knuckles cut up too badly on the heat shielding????

Naa, I wore mittens. Took about 2 hours to get them off but my hands are great! I actually did not remove the shielding on the tight side and after we dropped the starter it came out the bottom all intact. I have an air impact wrench and that made short work of the Y pipe and cat.

Thanks so much for all you guys help. I feel a lot more confident knowing I have some back up. I will tighten everything up and check the sensors. Next year when I go into the top side we can fix a lot of things.

Keep an eye out for me on intake parts I do ok on ebay but not to good on craigs list. I like the TPiS stuff.

A good friend of mine came over this afternoon and we tore out the old exhaust system back to the cat back. We got the drivers side manifold off in a few minutes and then we had to go do the other side. It took us about 2 hours to get that bitch off. Nothing easy on that side.

What sensors are on the back of the engine by the disty? Could those be leaking oil or the disty itself? There is oil coming from somewhere up there we just can't figure out where. It is not horrible but it's steady. Thanks

Matt I did that same thing yesterday. I went down to get some PB Blaster and made the extra distance to go to NAPA and got there at 4:03 and the place is locked up tight. Went on down to Oreillys who are open to 6 and got what I needed.

Church and small group meeting and then back to working on the car. Unbelievable temps here today, I may get to work with the garage door open. Enjoy the day everyone!

Thanks Joe! Great pics! We will be having to make it up as we go along. There was a thread not to long ago about heat shielding (was that by you, I can't remember). I will take some pictures along the way.

Thanks Brad! 825.00 for the headers and 95 each for the cats. My exhaust guy thinks if I put on the headers he can do the rest for around 200 to 250. We'll see. If that is true then the whole set up will be around 1200.00

Conditions were good, there was no correction factor. 65 degrees. I forgot to mention that the whole session cost 50 bucks.

One of the kids watching the runs said later that he had an IROC Camaro with the same engine and when he went to the big intake & tubes it really jumped.

This is how far the money went this year. TPiS headers, two magna flow 3" cats then reduce down into a 2.5 inch X pipe and then 2.5 inch out to hook up to the existing mufflers. Brad (jonszr1) who has tried all kinds of different combinations said that for the money this should work well. He also said that he knows guys that have done this and they really like the sound the cars make.

Next year hopefully we can do the top end. I plan on going to the dyno after each change and recording the results.

I drove in to Dynosport this morning to get some dyno runs in to establish my base hp and torque. When I got there this young husky shy kid was there and I intro'd myself and told him Dan had said come on in to get a dyno on my car. He said yeah I'm Dan. I thought uh oh I suddenly have doubts about all this.

He moving slowly got everything ready and asked me to back the car in to get hooked up. What the hell, I had heard this kid knew what he's doing. So I did.

after it is all hooked up he asked me if I wanted to drive and I said "are you sure?" Yeah go ahead, says he. He tells me how to do it and we run up to 30mph and then floor it to the red line. I'm worried about blowing my car up, are you sure those straps are going to hold it? He is smiling at me and says, don't worry your baby is going to be ok.

First run was a mess 184 hp I think. AFR all over the place. You are not hitting it hard enough he says, put your foot through the fire wall. 2nd run better 3rd run I am not going over 5K rpms. He says run her up to 5500 she's just warming up.

4th 5th and 6th runs I'm beating baby like a rented mule, come on you bitch faster! Those are the runs that I am showing here. Best run was 199.3 hp at 4400 rpm and 289 tq at 3000 rpm.

By now some other young guys had come in to look at the antique engine and geezer guy who owned it. Nice kids all running LS stuff between 5 and 600 hp. Lingenfelter GTO and a firebird. Dan said most of his work is Mustangs and LS stuff. It's nice to know that the Ford Chevy wars are still going strong. Here are the pics.

Now maybe some of you guys can tell me how this is for a stock engine. No frisbee and no AIR system and an air pump delete. Next will be runs with headers 3 inch cats and x pipe installed to see what, if any gains we will make.
