Speaking of C5's, I saw one of these for sale in AutoWeek, so I searched around and found their website - pretty slick-looking conversion (IMO), but the prices are ridiculous:

After reading numerous horror stories about getting to certain nuts and bolts, I recently added a variety of wobble extensions to my arsenal. I should probably stock up on Band-Aids, too. :sign7:

Sounds like it could be quite a find! Take a look at bogus' Buyers Guide if you haven't already done so:

http://www.c4guru.com/articles/BuyersGuide.pdf

There are lots more knowledgeable folks than me here. With those low miles, it would be nice to know how the car was used, if it sat for a long time, and maintenance history.

I just made myself sick. For grins, I searched for a '65 Olds Starfire on eBay - found a 'vert for "only" $27,999. Mine was a coupe - I paid about $400 for it.

If only a guy knew - I had a friend who used to buy '57 Chevy's for $25 to run them in the demolition derby

There's a few I'd like to have back. I had a '65 Olds Starfire - awesome car with a 425 and a carburetor the size of Rhode Island. It got 6.8 miles per gallon, and could burn the tires all day long. The '67 GTO was a tank - no power steering or brakes, but it was fun in a straight line. Had a '69, '70 and '73 Grand Prix - the '70 was my favorite, but the 455 Super Duty in the '73 was an amazing engine. Had a '74 Firebird Formula - that was a fun car, handled like a dream. And I had a '74 Ford van that I converted - we had a great time with that. After the 70's it was all downhill for a long time - cars were pretty sucky. A recent favorite was my '97 Lincoln Mark VIII - loved that car, but it was nickel-and-diming me to death. I remember test-driving a couple that I wish I had bought - a mint '69 GTO Judge, loaded (for something like $2100) and a brand-new '74 Firebird Formula 455. But who could afford $5000?

For as much as I've loved cars over the years, I was never very good about taking pictures of them. I did dig up a few:

Here's the '70 Grand Prix, on my wedding day back in '76:

a "before" picture of the van (it was a Mister Donut truck - lmao):

an "after" picture of the van (before the chrome side-pipes ):

On my '96 the gas-lid emblem had double-sided adhesive all the way around the ring. I just left it off when I reinstalled it. The front emblem had no adhesive. I found a bag of thread-cutting nuts at Checker Auto for a couple bucks - I dropped one of mine into the abyss, never to be found. Now I make sure to lay a towel over the radiator area if I remove the emblem.

I've decided that my other spring projects (water pump, opti, plugs, wires, hoses, brakes, shifter, cross-frame, stereo) won't give my knuckles enough of a beating, so I'm considering getting some Stainless Works long-tube headers for my LT4. I understand that O2 sims are not legal anymore, so they're hard to find - I did find a couple of sites advertising O2 sims, but no idea if they are still accepting orders. I plan to just hook up to my stock exhaust with the extensions and bullet cats - is it possible to have bungs added for the after-cat sensors, and if so, are there any issues?

Yeah, my compressor has a little valve at the bottom that you're supposed to open to remove moisture after evacuating the compressed air.

Thanks for the responses, everyone - bogus, your article timing is perfect

I saw an "auto bleed" procedure in the FSM that opens the ABS valves, but I doubt if the meager OBDII code reader/resetter I have is sophisticated enough to engage it.

Interesting point about moisture in the pressurized air, too - wonder how shops deal with this?

Thanks! Speed-bleeders are part of the plan - they'll be going in before I start. I want to flush 'em good - for all I know, the brake fluid could be vintage 1996.

I've been boning up on this recently, as I haven't done it myself in decades, and am going to be doing a little brake work when my car comes out of storage. One article I read mentioned that before starting, you should first depress the brake pedal as far as it normally goes, and to then put a block of wood under the pedal so that it doesn't travel further during the bleeding process. It mentioned that you could damage the o-rings in the MC if there's any corrosion in there beyond where the normal operation occurs. Anybody ever do this? Any other tips?

I've had a few issues with customers wanting speed bleeders. I've had a few that leak. I refuse to use them.

Interesting! I haven't installed them yet (car's still in storage), but will definitely keep an eye on 'em.
