It's tedious. Taping up custom graphics like pin stripes, flames is even harder (for me anyways).

10-15 minutes tomorrow and my instrument panel will be done, pack it in bubble wrap and play with something else.

Maybe glue in some firewall insulation and get that out of the way. I hate spray glue.

This would be a perfect example of the old saying "the more you screw with the worse it looks".
Have you tried Nu-Finish Polish to clean the bezels? It's a gentle polish that works good.

Joel

Nope, Joel, haven't tried it.

I will say the nothing I used in many years compares to Mother's Mag Wheel and Aluminum Polish (and I use a boatload of Maguire's Professional products (not the Maguire's that you buy at Walmart).

I used it on the 67 grill and it had the little spots that stand up away from the chrome (not pits down into the chrome). The Mother's brought it back to perfect (I was blown away).

I used it on the horn button and the cad plating on the gas cap (Cad is almost impossible to restore). See pics

My next purchase will be Mother's Billet Polish which is a bit less abrasive.

Nu-Finish is probably good stuff but nothing I've used compares to this Mother's polish.

Racing's never easy, is it?

As long as you're not going backwards...............

We won't be at the track until October either.
And this one is 2 different events that will take 4 days, going to be exhausting especially if we have more problems with the car.

My eyes are crossed from 3 hours of taping up the instrument panel (C2 Tech).

I'll let the paint cure 2 days and finish it up.

The usual, 3 hours of very tedious taping, 10 minutes of painting , 2 VERY thin coats with a 7 minute flash in-between.

The original paint scratched easily but you can't take it off, can't sand because it's grained.

Interesting how they made these, the entire piece including the instrument bezels and the lettering for the switched is a one piece die cast. Then the entire thing was chromed which is another reason to not take it to bare metal, getting paint to stick to chrome is almost impossible.

After chroming the factory shot 3 different coats of paint AND they baked the paint on in-between each coat.

You have to be extremely careful shooting the paint because a wet coat will start to fill in the graining.

Still have to give the chrome a touch of Mother's polish and clean up the switches.

Me either, I can get thru one though.

Try Deschutes's Black Butte Porter, very mild on the hops but nice aftertaste, very light tasting for a porter.
Their other beers aren't very hoppy either.

I pulled the instrument panel oft of a box that was in the living room closet for years.

It looks pretty damn good. Already have 2 hours in it just trying to get the 3 switches and cigar lighter out.

Have to replace 2 knobs, the headlight switch knob alone is $29.00.

I did really luck out though, the bezels on the gauges are in great shape and don't need painting which is a boatload of work. And the silver lettering on the switched was almost brown but Simple green brought them back.
That lettering and the bezels are part of the whole panel, cast in one piece, can't remove them to restore.

Taping tomorrow will take an hour and a half plus time to clean the panel before shooting paint.

Then lighly hit the thin chrome around the bezels with mother's Mag Wheel polish

Huh, UPS showed up at lunch time.

Crazy- The amount of gaskets GM used on the C2 heater.

New Speaker - same crappy 1967 sound. no Bose for me.
I'd rather listen to the sidepipes anyway.

And $260 worth of crappy insulation. Some to be glued in, some goes in with rubber push buttons.

Started on the instrument panel restoration, see C2 tech.

If UPS is running at their normal efficiency.......it will show up around 7 pm.

I ordered another $60 of little chit today from Long Island Corvette Supply, first order was from Paragon Corvette Reproductions. Both companies only manufacturer/sell C2 parts. Both are pretty good but pricy. And both have some of the original GM tooling. Long Island has a decent size manufacturing facility in well, Long Island.

You have to do your homework on 67 reproduction parts, some are excellent, some are crap.

Today before DNBFS, my work list is: Take the garbage can out to the curb.

Unfortunately, no, John. It's the front seal in the compressor.

But before buying a new compressor, I look for a shop that would replace the seal OR rebuild the original.

IIRC all they have to do is pull off the clutch and pop a new seal in. Then of course, recharge the system.
But there nay be a situation with the rest of the seals in the system being compatible with the newer Freon, you'll have to check on that too.

Nothing's easy, the fuse box in the 67 was stuck to the firewall, it's a part you REALLY don't want to break, a 10 minute job took over an hour.

Started working on the instrument panel to get it ready for paint, wanted to pull the ign., headlight, cigar lighter and wiper switches.

The ign. switch wouldn't go into the accessory position (the only position that enables you to pull out the key tumblers to remove the switch). That took 45 minutes.

Then went to pull the headlight switch knob, it's stuck and the release button seems to be too. Soaking in WD40 now.

Thought this was a good place to stop for the day.

Well, I do know that any ECM from a 92/93 Firebird or Camaro is the same as a 92/93 Corvette. The chip will plug right in and the car runs fine (I have one).

Summit's pretty good.

Unfortunately for me, they don't carry C2 parts.

The restoration parts vendors charge $23 shipping even if you only need 2 rubber grommets. Though most do ship the same day you order. Still have to wait a week for UPS.

What the difference between not loaded and semi loaded caliper.
Haven't checked rear yet.

The light drag is probably correct, it does take a little effort (the pads are supposed to drag a bit to keep the rotors clean).

Not sure what you mean about loaded and semi.

But there's obviously a problem on the pass side, You could try pulling the pads and see how the caliper is sliding or if it hangs up. The pistons hanging up is a bit harder to determine since it takes some effort to compress them even using a 6 inch C-clamp when changing pads.

You could pull the pads, free up and lube the caliper then apply the brakes hard and see if the rotor will spin easier like the drivers side. If it very hard to spin again, it may be the piston hanging up.

One more thing I can think of is stuck pistons in the caliper. They extend but not retract when the pressure is let off the pedal.

Yea, and an indication of that is that the brake pedal is down enough to keep the brake lights on.

I only have the 92 &94 FSM's. So, you can find the rotor thickness in the FSM you just bought.

Yea, something's hanging up. After you get it on stands, turn the tires by hand, that will tell you if something, hung up (and I'll bet it is). As, said take a good look at the pins and caliper where it slides.
Free up the calipers with some light prying then. hit the brakes. If the rotors are again hard to turn, the calipers/pistons are sticking.

From the pics, it looks like this has been going on for many miles.

Hawk pads don't wear like this, I have them on my 92.

I suggest you keep the kids and your spouse on your left side then.

Try removing your finger.

Matt, I have a friend, who is a Corvette mechanic, that swears by Lucas power steering fluid/stop leak. Says it will fix those exact issues you are encountering. Just suck the existing fluid out of the res with a turkey baster and pour in the Lucas. Jack up the front end and go lock to lock a few times. I use the Lucas stuff in all of my systems, truck, Caddy and Corvette.

The Silverado was putting down a 4 inch puddle every night, I happened to use Prestone with stop leak.
Probably leaking from the rack.
It stopped leaking then, started again, topped the reservoir off again and it's been 2 years without the leak.

Good Morning CGs!

So here I sit at 3:30 am, unable to sleep. I did go to bed at a reasonable hour, around 10:15 pm. I slept until about 2:30 at which point my body decided it was done sleeping. After laying in bed for an hour unable to fall back asleep, I decided it wasn't worth it

Matthew

Me 2, sucks. But I made it to 5:30. 20 minutes sleepin' 20 awake.

I hate when that happens—I have parts I swear I have, but where?

Ordering Corvette parts is such a pain in the ass, you have to look up every part on the web, can't trust the catalogs and you have compare one vendor to another. Even the premier vendors, steering column bolts that bolt the column to the peal assembly - Paragon Corvettes - 3 bolts and washers , Long Island corvette Supply - 4 Bolts, washers and nuts All for a $3.00 item.

As far as the missing steering column bracket------I found it------welded to the steering column that was packed in burble wrap.
