It was never a question of money with me. I can afford anything I want for this car. If I want to, I can go and buy a new C6 right now. But that's not practical. This is a hobby for me. That was the original intent of this post - to show that as a simple hobby, things can add up. It had nothing to do with racing in the beginning.

Just because you don't think something is a necessity, doesn't mean someone else feels the same way. That's the beauty of this game. I get to do what I want, and you get to do what you want. But personally, I don't criticize others for what they want, because it's their car. If someone wants a body kit - go for it. You want chrome rims - go for it. You want a supercharger...you guessed it - go for it. It's all personal preference.

An observation... you spent quite a bit on your exhaust and wheels and lights, but not on driver improvement.

Well, my upgrades were done for several reasons. One is cosmetic. The other is safety. The headlight upgrade was free (included with car). The rims are something I wanted to look good. I would put my stock rims back on to autocross. Exhaust was rusted out - I could spend $250 on stock mufflers, or $450 on a nice stainless steel exhaust. I upgraded to C5 brakes because I thought that the stock ones were crap.

It seems that you want to criticize my upgrades, and I don't know why.

As far as my driving - I'm not a race car driver. But I drive everyday for a living, often at high speeds. You have no idea what kind of training I have in that regard. I would love to take a Skip Barber driving class or some other thing like that. I think it would be fun as well as educational.

As far as the cost of autocross, that doesn't bother me either. This is my hobby and I know that it takes money. I can afford it. If I couldn't, I wouldn't have the car as a "toy" in the first place.

What I stated is that I would like to have someone to go with. No one likes to go it alone their first time. I am all about learning, too, so it would be nice if someone could show me the ropes. I, unfortunately, don't know anyone around me that does autocross. Sure I can just show up, but I haven't even looked to see what events are around me. Is that my fault? Sure it is - just means I'm not dedicated about it yet. I have a brand new baby and a family and a house and other priorities in my life at this point. Those take precedence. I can still enjoy my car, in my fashion, and at my leisure, and I don't need to race it to do that. Just because someone doesn't race their car, it doesn't make their car or the driver less capable, and that seems to be what you are implying.

I graded one of my wife's papers when she was finishing up her degree....I gave it back covered in red ink and with a "C-" - she wouldn't talk to me for the rest of the day....hahaha. Funny thing was, it wasn't the content of the paper that was lacking, it was her grammar because English is not her first language. Oh well.

Better than cold golf and bad beer!

I painted my calipers black. My recommendation is don't use the spray can stuff, it's garbage. I did extensive sanding and prep work and it came out like crap. The paint just globs up once you spray it. Use the brush on stuff instead. That's what I'll use when I do the rear calipers this summer.

Anywho, I woke up this morning and felt like someone had beat me with a pool cue. Ugh. That workout yesterday was pretty intense. Today is day number two, and the DVD is plyometrics....it won't be any easier. I actually started using the meal plan book this morning, and had egg whites and potatoes for breakfast. I'm ready to go work out in a few.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Greg -

I'm not a motor junkie like these guys, but I feel your pain. I, too, have an 89 and have been kicking around the same ideas you have. After reading quite a bit, I've been looking for an extra plenum (to port myself) and a used set of TPIS/AS&M runners. I would also like my 113s ported with 1.6 RR and a mild cam for the street. I would eventually add headers to go with my catback. I currently have 2.59 gears (auto) and would like to upgrade to 3.07s.

Keep us posted as to what you decide.

700-Pound Man Hopes to Stand to Marry

MONTERREY, Mexico (June 10) - Manuel Uribe, who once weighed a half ton but has slimmed down to about 700 pounds, celebrates his 43rd birthday on Wednesday with a simple wish for the coming year: to be able to stand on his own two feet to get married.

Interviewed at his home in northern Mexico, where he can still do little more than sit up on a bed, Uribe said more than two years of steady dieting have helped him drop about 550 pounds from his Guinness record weight of 1,235 pounds......(click link for more)

BTW - I would never take my car to the local chevy dealer. The majority (not all, of course) have never even seen a C4 in the bay, let alone know how to work on them. If you are serious about having a shop do the work, find a competent shop that works on corvettes.

First thing I would do is turn on the ignition without trying to start it - if you hear the fuel pump energize - for about 2 seconds (you will hear it if it's running) then you know it's not being disabled.

Is the security light on the dashboard flashing while the doors are closed? If it is, use the door key to turn the lock cylinder locked and open and that should reset it. But I don't think it's your VATS, since that disables the starter.

If VATS were the issue, the car wouldn't even crank.

If it starts for a few seconds, then it seems as if the fuel pump is at least priming the system. You need to do a diagnostic check as to why you are not getting one of the three necessary things: fuel, spark, air.

I'm back on the bike now three or four days a week.

Keep up the good work!

Yeah, I'm not a slob, by any means, but not what I used to be...lol. I just turned 28 the other day. When I was younger I was involved in a lot of martial arts and sports. My body fat was around 9% or so, 170ish lbs. A few years ago I got more into lifting than anything else. So I'm a lot stronger than I used to be, but it's a different body type.

This morning I was 198 with around 20-21% body fat. I'm 5'10.5". I would like to get back to sub 10% body fat. Many of my family members are fat. I promised myself that no matter what happened in my life I would never be like that. On top of that there is a big history of heart disease due to obesity in my family. I'm trying to be healthy, plus for work I need to be fit. So it's necessary for me.

I'm glad to hear that you're jumping back on the bandwagon! I hope it goes well for you.

Well, it's time to work out!

Matthew

Well good morning CGs!

How is everyone's day so far??? Can't complain, yet. Baby slept for two good stretches last night, about 3 1/2 to 4 hours each before getting up to eat. Awesome.

So if anyone recalls, I ordered the P90X dvds for my workouts. Well, got them yesterday. Today is the first day...duh duh daaaaaahhhhhhh! Talk about a self-image killer. After doing my baseline measurements and body fat % and "before" photos, I got a little reality check. I do work out (mainly lifting) about 4-6 days a week and I'm in pretty good shape. But geeze I guess not as much as I thought. It's amazing when I compare my #s to what they used to be a few years ago and what they are now. I won't go into detail, but I'm not pleased...lol. So I'm about to go do the workout itself in a little bit. I'm excited to get it going!

Hope everyone has a great day!

Matthew

So you rode the short bus to school that year? Explains a lot....

I don't know cause I haven't filled up in over a week, but regular (what I use) is around $4.15, diesel is 4.89. Ugh. THe best part about being on vacation is I don't go anywhere and I don't have to drive!

The difference between you guys and most of us, though, is that we don't race. There are always going to be more costs associated with that. I think the intent of my original post was that most average guys, who don't race and put their cars through extra stress, still spend a lot to maintain their cars just to keep them on the road. That's all.

BTW, I bought a new upper rad hose last night....lol

Sounds good - do you have a FSM for the testing sequence?

I wish I would have taken out the seat when I did mine. I got the bolts by using a series of swivels, extensions, and patience

In reverse, I held the nuts in the socket by using the tape method - stick a bunch of tape in the socket and make the nut stick to it!

Why is that? The D36 is more durable than people give it credit for, and he has a stock L98.
