My parents live across the river from an ANG base (about 200 yards away). Every July they put on an air show and there are usually some older planes there. We have a BBQ and everyone sits in the backyard and watches the show. Pretty cool.

I saw those visios at wal-mart over Christmas. I just have a hard time buying something that expensive where I have never heard of the brand and am completely unaware of their customer service or quality. Perhaps people have had good experience with them, but it's still pretty early to say.

I bought my Samsung DLP through crutchfield.com and had it shipped to my house and they brought it inside. I went to best buy to see if they would match the price first, and the guy actually told me to buy it online. Free shipping and no tax was hard to beat (along with the lower price!).

My opinion, I would stick to name brand on electronics. In most cases, you get what you pay for.

Wow...that pisses me off. I just typed this whole damn thing and when I tried to post it, it gave me an error and deleted everything!!!! grr. Ok, here I go again.

As I first typed...I've been out the the audio hobby for a while, but here's my take on things.

1) Front components.
By the way you are talking, you want to mount three separate front speakers per channel? Why?There are some very good 2-way component systems out there. The majority of audio listening is the mid range speaker. The C4 is not an ideal audio setup. You would be best to build kickpods, but due to lack of space, that's not feasible. Mounting the mids and tweeter in the dash would be pointless, imho, and would probably sound worse than just a basic coaxial speaker in the door. You can't "tune" them if they are in the dash. I would put a good quality component in the door opening with the tweeter surface mounted on the a-pillar at the appropriate height.

2) Subwoofers.
Any reason you want two 8's? Personally, I don't think they are good bass speakers. Very little surface area. I would prefer one 10. You will get a deeper bass response and more accurate reproduction. Two 8's will keep up well with very fast dance/techno, but the 10 will also do well. Just keep it limited to a tightly sealed small box (small meaning the airspace in the box based on speaker specs). Don't port the box or use the higher end on the air space. I'm assuming you want SQ as opposed to SPL.

3) Amps.
I noticed Red suggested a 400 watt amp for the front components. I can't agree with that. You won't find many component speakers over 100 rms. 400 would be way overkill and would be a larger amp, wasting space and money. As far as an amp for the subs, depends on what setup you go with. You need to match the amp to the subs. My personal experience, I ran an old school PPI powerclass (before they were bought out and became crap) 300 RMS amp. I ran multiple setups with both one and two tens, varying boxes, cars, wiring. My brother now uses that same amp (9 years later) for a 12" Memphis Audio sub that absolutely pounds.

4) Head units.
Lots of good ones out there, personal preference.

Overall, there are a lot of options out there. In my opinion, quality audio pieces cost more, but you get what you pay for.

Matthew

I yahooed a couple of pages, check these...always good to do lots of research.

What are you looking for as far as "how to"? We have a tech library - check the side of the screen.

As far as online sites, some are:

http://www.corvetteamerica.com/cf/parts.cfm
http://www.corvettecentral.com/
http://www.mamotorworks.com/corvette.html
http://www.keenparts.com/index.php - has good diagrams

I also use rock auto and gmpartsdirect if I already know what I want, along with summit or jegs.

Sorry if this was covered already...

What time zone is the forum on? I am on CST, and the last post I made (at 1819 hours) said it was posted "today 0:19".

It's just a little confusing when trying to see what posts are new/old. Can we change the time to either our own time zone or maybe at least PST since that's where you're at, bogus?

Thanks,

Matthew

Why do you hate to say it? I love my c4, but if I could get a convertible C5, blue with oak interior at a reasonable price, I'd jump all over it. I think both cars are great. I actually found one a few months ago that I was tempted to buy, but with the baby on the way, I refuse to make car payments on a "toy".

I've had a fuse blow for seemingly no reason on my taillights. Couldn't find a problem. Replaced it and haven't had problems since. It is a 20 year old car, after all, and there are bound to be little gremlins in it. As long as you checked everything and it seemed ok, I wouldn't be too concerned.

As far as a "breaker" - why would you want that?? Sounds like a bad idea to me. The whole point of a fuse is to protect the system it is in line with. If you had a breaker that kept tripping, that would defeat the purpose. It would just cover up whatever problem there was without solving it. Could cause more problems in the long run. There are "breakers" for mechanics/testing use that you can replace a fuse with for diagnostics, but I wouldn't want one full time in the fuse box. Just my $.02.

Well, CSS996 has off today, so I figured I'd pick up the slack

Hmmm...I'm new at this, so where to start?

Weather in Chicago isn't too bad today. Rained a little overnight, but it should be in the mid 50's today.

Other exciting things in the news? Nothing really. American Airlines is cancelling another 594 flights today due to safety checks, bringing the grand total to over 2,600 in the past three days. Wow.

Other than that, Cpl. Cesar Laurean, the marine accused of killing his pregnant marine girlfriend was caught in Mexico. This was after an approximate three month manhunt. Extradition could take up to a year if he fights it. We'll have to see.

Well, TGIF for most. I have to work tonight and then I'm off for three, so TGIF for me, too.

Hope everyone has a great day.

Congrats to Rolla! Wish I could have played, but it was a work night....oh well.

I have a suggestion along the lines of what Tommy said. I think you should have a roll call first and require a set number of players...ie, minimum of four, or something like that. Also, you could give a half point for the second person to have the correct answer, because sometimes it's just how fast your computer loads, not if you know the answer or not. That might make the race a little closer.

Just a couple friendly suggestions.

Matthew

PS - where did you come up with the über question and where the heck did Woodstock find the answer????

Sorry I missed a good game.

Overall, it doesn't take a lot of technical skill, just time. I would invest in a good set - some people have said that wilcox is good, I have no personal experience. Since my targa top seal is still a little off (due to it being slightly misshapen), I'm considering buying GM pieces for that only and redoing the top. Should be easier the second time around....lol.

Drunk Newlyweds Tasered and Jailed
Posted Apr 8th 2008 11:47AM by Peter Mychalcewycz

Ah, wedding night. A magical evening filled with frivolity and passion, and, evidently, non-lethal electrocution via taser.

Sigh.

A Vallejo, California couple was thrown in jail on their wedding night after a house party was repeatedly broken up by police. Neighbors reported hearing loud music late into the night and the party eventually headed outside.

The groom, evidently overjoyed by the prospect of everlasting marital bliss, became a bit too animated for police. He was treated to a healthy dose of electrical current after he stripped off his shirt and advanced toward officers with balled up fists. He got tasered. On his wedding night. Well played, sir.

Not to be outdone, the bride was also arrested for public intoxication. Both of them spent the evening in Solano County Jail.

We are aware that the economy is not at its strongest right now, but seriously, wasn't there an easier way to score a cheap room for the night? Here's hoping the rest of their lives go more smoothly than the first 24 hours of their marriage.

Sorry...haven't been on in a couple days.

I didn't mean for this to become complicated. I guess my point was this: it takes a lot of money to run a website. I don't think it's fair for one person to have to shoulder that. I consider this forum "entertainment". I spend 7-10 hours a week on here. If I were to find another activity that I spent 7-10 hours on per week it would cost me at least $100 a week. So you're saving me money! Seriously, though, I understand that not everyone is in the position to pay $XXX.XX to become a supporting member or whatever designation. Even if donations were anonymous, with no recogntion, I would like to do that. This would be the first forum I've ever contributed to financially (besides my charming personality, of course). I don't want to step on anyone's toes, imply anything, or insult anyone, because money issues can be touchy.

Bottom line is I appreciate the forum and would like to support it to keep it going for as long as it can

I remember that post and admired your work. It is a time consuming job, but one that needs to be done. I still have the door seals to do, but those seem like they will be easier since they have the push pins and there is no glass to seal against it so I'm wondering if the fit will be as tough. I also need to do outer door seals, I'm just irritated that they cost $60 for a set. Doesn't seem like $60 worth or rubber. Oh well. Hope everyone else enjoys their weatherstripping escapades.

Look at that red C4 in the background stinkin up the neighborhood and bringing down the property values

Honestly though, looks like a nice neighborhood...I'm a fan of old tree-lined streets.

Nice cars, too.

Bogus -

Wondering if there is a way to donate to the site besides buying CG gear on cafepress. I'm down with the swag, but I think it would be more beneficial to donate $20 through paypal as opposed to buying a $20 t-shirt where you make $2. Will we ever have a "supporting member" designation?

Thoughts?

That's a cardboard cupholder that they give you at fast food places to hold sodas in.

Another update. I am not super happy with the "aftermarket" weatherstripping I used. I don't know what company it's from, but it's made in India. It came with the car, so the cost was free....that's why I used it. I doesn't seal as well as the factory and the rubber is a little distorted. It's also considerably harder than the soft factory ws. If I had to do it all over again, I'd spend the extra coin and get genuine GM.

If you buy a T45 youre going to have the wrong bit for the job. The factory bolts are T40.

Sorry bout that - Case is correct, as usual...lol. And I wouldn't worry about stripping the bolts tightening them. Unless you mean the heads themselves, like the previous owner did on mine. I just bought a replacement bolt...no serious issue there.

I've heard the A-molds will clear it but the later sawblades won't. I know I test fitted my sawblades from my 89 and it barely cleared it. My aftermarket C6 repros fit with no issues.

I have a picture of the brackets from cad that someone else did, but you'd need a machine shop to make them.

You'll also need the little stuff such as brake fluid, banjo bolts, slide lube, and a bleeder can make the job easier. Some people use speed bleeders (I don't).

BTW, why do you want the upgrade, from what I've read the 96's had good brakes already - better than earlier years?

Well, as if yesterday wasn't bad enough, I decided to torture myself some more today...lol. I wanted to do the rear seal on the top/halo area. So back to it. It wasn't as bad as the windshield. Didn't seem as badly deteriorated. I don't know if it's due to the fact it it covered a little more by the top or what. I did find my camera, too - under the seat...hehe.

Here are a few pics - you can see there was one bad spot at the bottom near the top of the door, other than that not terrible. Maybe now I can wash the outside without washing the inside at the same time...

btw...I understand why shops charge so much to do it. And it's worth it

I ended up doing a slide show because there are a lot of pics. Starts out with a few shots of the windshield weatherstripping and how bad it was...then jumps to a few shots of the ws installed (remember...lost camera...haha) then it goes to today's rear weatherstripping and me working on it. Shows a few shots of what you might find as far as when you pull off the ws.

Enjoy!
